Sci-fi novels can literally go from alien invasions to super-galactic battles and magical superheroes. The story possibilities are endless for these great sci-fi authors, some of them among the best the genre ever produced. But young adults and adults can't be the only ones enjoy such great content, kids should get a kick out of them, too.

There are definitely children science fiction books for kids to get into. In fact, many of these stories are super interesting and appealing that kids would actually want to read more! I'm serious. A lot of these novels that I'm about to list are very engaging, your child won't want to put them down, even if it's time for bed. To get your kid started on reading, here are a couple of the best sci-fi books for kids!

The movie based on this series recently came out, but if you or your child haven't seen it yet, get them to read the series first! I personally read the series and it's actually one of the best sci-fi series ever — making this book one of the best sci-fi books for kids. If your kid is into magical children with strange talents, I highly recommend this one.

The book is based on a 16-year-old boy, Jacob, who’s dealt with a horrific family tragedy. He then comes across a mysterious island, home to an abandoned orphanage with a collection of strange, but curious photographs. Later on he discovers the origins of those photographs at Miss Peregrine’s Home for Peculiar Children. Jacob explores the home and becomes clear that the children in the photos are more than just peculiar — they have magical powers.

If you've never heard of the Ender's Game series, you and your kid should seriously get into them — they're totally mind-blowing. If your child loves outer space and aliens, consider this choice.

Andrew “Ender” Wiggins believes that he’s playing computer simulated war games. Ender may be the military genius Earth desperately needs in a war against an alien enemy seeking to destroy all human life. However, the only way to find out is to throw Ender into ever harsher training, to chip away and find the diamond inside — or destroy him utterly. And in the beginning of it all, Ender is only six years old, and soon grows up fast. But he isn’t the only result of the experiment, the war with the Buggers has been raging for 100 years now. Find out whether or not Ender will finally defeat the Buggers.

Here's another amazing novel from the best sci-fi books for kids — The Jupiter Chronicles. This is a rescue mission in outer space that involves two children trying to save their father and an alien city from enemies! Couldn't be any more creative than this.

There's been a war that’s been fought and lost by the Jovians. Now, the answer to their freedom lies within the Great Red Spot and it’s up to Ian and Callie to discover its deep secret. In the year 1892, Ian and Callie Castillo have had to suffer the hardships of a single parent family ever since their father went missing five years ago. Since then, Ian has refused to use the last gift that his father left him, which is a telescope that’s collecting dust in the attic. But when Callie decides to peer through it, it activates the device and sends the Castillos to the steam-powered floating cities of Jupiter to rescue their father and free the Jovians before the Martians launch their final attack.

This book is truly an entertaining one among the best sci-fi books for kids. The Wonderful Flight to the Mushroom Planet is very amusing, luring, and your kid won't be able to put this book down once starting it! I guarantee this book will have your kid begging for more.

The Mushroom Planet series is based on the amazing adventures of Chuck and David, two boys who travel to the alien planet Basidium in their homemade spaceship! This series is certainly timeless, and is a classic that will make your kid want to reread over and over again. It's chock-full of fantastic adventure stories that really engage readers.

The Zero Stone is the type of book to really have you at the edge of your seat in suspense and pure shock. Have your kid read through one of the best sci-fi books for kids ever and experience the spine-tingling from this great book.

The key to power unimaginable to man is a mysterious stone that was born of worlds long extinct. Powers that could even enable its owners to control the universe! Murdoc Jern, a gem trader, discovers that possession of the stone has led him to the center of a web of intrigue and murder. And with his companion Eet, an inscrutable feline mutant with amazing ESP powers, he is hunted down through space, coming to a long forgotten planet inhabited by apelike “sniffers.” While there, he’s faces the laser-guns of the Thieves’ Guild — and Murdoc must seek the source of the Zero Stone and bargain his right to pursue his destiny as a free man.

From one of the top best sci-fi books for kids, this book is based in outer space and has lots of aliens, including the main character's Martian friend! If your kid cannot get enough of space books, add this one to there list.

Jim Marlow and his strange-looking Martian friend Willis were allowed to travel only so far. However, one day, Willis unwittingly tuned into a treacherous plot that threatened all the colonists on Mars, and it set Jim off on a terrifying adventure that could save, or possibly destroy, them all!

Honestly, we love aliens, and it shows on this list of best sci-fi books for kids. Well, the genre is sci-fi, and sci-fi does involve lots of outer space and alien life. But this book is a great choice for your child to dive right into.

Aliens that plan on conquering the world are closing in on a weakened America. Epidemic alien-flu leaves people terrified to simply leave their homes and go outside. The Undying Emperor is drafting Americans of all ages despite the plummeting population. However, nobody entirely cares. Jason, like everyone else, lives in a fantasy facilitated by computer glasses that project images right over the parts of the world he doesn’t like. But as long as they ignore the constant barrage of terrible news, their lives would turn out to be perfect… until the government discovers his father’s secret. Then his “perfect world” comes crashing down.

If your child loves a good of outer space and fantasy, then this alien/fantasy story will truly engage them. The Hidden Realms of Firestone is a fantastic story that will not only grab your kid's attention when reading, but it can lure you into the storyline, too.

Twelve-year-old Agatha Fulstropp has an unusual secret, a secret that only her and her grandfather know. While she is Earth’s first and only pupil to be enrolled at the Firestone Academy on the faraway Planet of Aruuliah, she’s preparing for the new term with excitement and even making new friends. However, being from Earth has its drawbacks as she becomes the target of a sinister plot to remove her from the Academy forever! But time is running out to discover who amongst her peers hates her enough to wish her gone. Can they solve this mystery before it’s too late?

Among the best sci-fi books for kids, By Bear Bones is truly a unique story for your kid to really enjoy. And as an adult, you can get into it, too!

Two characters from Earth and one from the Moon are on a journey to discover their propose in life when threatened by an ever increasing amount of ‘redundancy’ of the workforce in their respective professions. And during a state of turmoil, it is uncovered that the enforced recreational facilities, JoyTime, provides a primate experience that is so intense that most visits can’t be remembered. And on a mission to reconnect with a basic component of the economy, they decide to become meteor miners.

Easily one of the best sci-fi books for kids, The Giver has received the Newbery Medal in 1994. Not only will your child absolutely love this book, but there's no reason for you not to read this book, too. It's certainly an educational story, which is always a plus.
