Fans of Star Wars Rebels will be happy to know that executive producer Dave Filoni has confirmed multiple Easter Eggs in the recent blockbuster Rogue One: A Star Wars Story that made references to the Disney animated series. Currently in its third season, Star Wars Rebels takes place a few years before the events in Rogue One.
In an interview with EW, Filoni confirmed the appearances of the following three Easter Eggs (all are blink-and-you'll-miss-them moments, which give you good reason to catch Rogue One again if you missed them the first time around)
1. Chopper Strolls In
Rebels' reliable but perennial grump droid, Chopper, can be seen strolling by — with the orange top and red blinking light — on the far left of the officer rushing to alert Mon Mothma (front row, center) of the battle on Scarif.
2. Paging General Syndulla
In the same scene where Chopper appeared, an announcement can be heard over the Yavin IV PA system paging for a “General Syndulla." Though many fans have debated that this was a reference to General Cham Syndulla (Rebels' Twi'lek pilot Hera Syndulla’s father), new theories claimed that it is referring to Hera instead, foretelling that she may have achieved General status just before Rogue One begins.
3. A Ghost Is Sighted
Finally, there is Ghost, the Rebels ship (pictured above, that stingray-shaped spaceship at the bottom left), which can be seen a few times in the space battles above Scarif, as well as briefly on a landing pad on the Yavin IV base.
4. Whitaker's Gerrera For 'Star Wars Rebels'
Last, but by no means least, the latest tie-in between the film and the TV series has also been confirmed by Filoni. Rogue One's Rebel freedom fighter, Saw Gerrera, will soon appear in an upcoming two-episode special of Star Wars Rebels, entitled "Ghosts of Geonosis, Parts One and Two."
What's more, it will be voiced by no less than Oscar winner Forest Whitaker himself, reprising his Rogue One role. The character had previously appeared in another Star Wars animated series, the acclaimed Star Wars: The Clone Wars (2008–2015).
These tie-ins between the Star Wars films and TV series will certainly enhanced the enjoyment of the Star Wars expanded universe. Other than Gerrera, fans should also keep a keen eye and ear open for Rogue One references in future Rebels episodes.
