A Quick Witches Guide to Cursing

First, let's start by asking what is a curse? Curses are more serious than hexes, and can live on for generations if intended. They’re born of anger, hatred, or justice. However, curses can often be undone, in most cases, by the caster or target. Not feeling up for the long term punishment? Try a hex.

Hexes are often a one time spell, and are not long term. These spells are often born from revenge, annoyance, or irritation caused by the target. A hex is the mirror of malevolent magic by making the target feel the pain they caused for a short time. Due to its short term effects, reversals aren’t necessary.

Tips

Hot, spicy, or sour can inflict physical pain, heat, agitation, or “sourness” to the individual. Anything you normally use for divination, dreams, or astral work can be used for illusions, delusions, and nightmares. Anything used for spirit work can be used to send unhappiness, restlessness, or spirits to someone. Poisonous or toxic can be used to create either illness or even death. A number or color associations you may have can be used in opposition against them. Anything with positive aspects can be used to siphon those aspects from your target. Adding salt to certain herbs or small spells (such as bay and or basil mixed with lemon for money) can siphon that thing to you from them for a simple small hex.

Taglocks

  • DNA (saliva, nail clippings, hair, blood, etc.)
  • Drawings
  • Photos
  • Target’s name written on paper
  • Target’s signature
  • An item that belongs to the target

How To Tell If You've Been Cursed–The Egg Test

Take an egg and pass through the flame of a white or black candle. Set with the intent and crack into a white bowl. If you find blood you’re cursed. If there’s big white clots there’s a problem, usually a blockage or obstruction from bad energy. If you find a shell you have bad luck, unless you suck at cracking eggs. If the yolk is broken there’s a disturbance within yourself.

If you find something listed above, or otherwise unusual, use regular cleansing methods on yourself. Pass the egg in the bowl over the flame again and dispose of it outside. If you do cook it make it with protective herbs and salt. If you find nothing unusual cook the egg as usual and enjoy a good meal.

Cursed Objects

A cursed object is an object that has been enchanted to hold a curse. Think of the movies where a cursed object causes bad luck, and or torments someone through the curse, or a haunting. Just like any enchanted object, it is linked to a spell, but instead, it puts out negative energy. Any object can be cursed, whether you are cursing jewelry, a crystal, an image, your grimoire, or anything else it doesn’t matter.

A spell-caster may wish to curse something for any reason, just like there are many reasons people curse others. One reason may be to prevent others from taking it, or if someone does it will bring them misfortune and misery, until the object is returned to the owner. Some people curse their grimoires or other important books to keep others from snooping in them or stealing them. An object may also be cursed if it belongs to someone that the caster feels deserves to be punished.

There are four steps to cursing an object; cleansing, preparation, cursing, and aftercare. For the cleansing, it is important to cleanse the space and whatever materials you will be working with. It is also important to cleanse yourself, and place protections around you or your area. The cleansing will help get rid of any residual energy and the protections will help your space and yourself from having anything nasty hang around.

Preparation is grounding and centering yourself. This can be anything from drinking or eating something that provides energy and meditation to put you in the right mind. For those who want you can use a grounding spell or object. Get your object and ingredients ready. Read over any incantation a few times before if you want to as well.

Cursing works just like any other spell. Follow the recipe. If you don't have one then, in this case, cover or surround the item in the ingredients while performing the curse. You're taking the energy and purpose of the ingredients to use in the spell to help with intent. This is where it differs from other spells in the fact that you have to think of everything going into the object, and not just out in the universe, or to one person.

Writing down and adding to the curse, or stating the limitations of this curse is recommended. For instance, if you want someone to be cursed only if the object is stolen, and for the curse to become dormant again once returned, then add that in. Otherwise, the curse may not go as intended and may backfire onto you. When dealing with curses it's good to get the language and technicalities worked out. An anchor might also be considered, or a separate object that is tied to the curse that, once destroyed, will break the curse.

If you wish to curse an object you no longer have in your possession then do it in the place where it is usually kept, or use an object that is connected to the item you wish to curse i.e. its bag or instruction manual. Just like any other curse you can use an image of the object.

Just like in all things aftercare is very important. Re-cleanse yourself, and your space, but not your object, and tuck the anchor somewhere else if you've decided to use one. Rest and get something to drink.

Removal

As mentioned above, destroy the anchor either by tearing or burning it. If you still have the object, cleanse it while stating that you are breaking the curse. Otherwise, any curse-breaking spell can be used. If you are using a technique such as moonlight, sunlight, salt, or herb cleansing then it is best to let it rest for a few days. Remember that some objects react badly to certain cleansing methods. For instance, don't leave an amethyst in the sunlight to cleanse or else the color will bleach from it. If the normal methods don't work seek help. Removing a curse you didn't place on an object can be much more challenging, and may take multiple cleansings and banishings to remove the curse fully. This will most likely take a great deal of energy, and you may have to consider simply containing the curse in a special box, or in sigils, instead of breaking it. Sometimes destroying the object after a blessing is the better option. If you are dealing with cursed divination tools be advised that there are certain ways to deal with things. For example, you NEVER burn a ouija board; it must be buried in blessed Earth.

Burn Curse

A curse to make someone feel an excruciating physical burning sensation whenever they go close to or think about a specific person.

WARNING: THIS CURSE USES OBJECTS THAT CAN BURN AND SEVERELY IRRITATE THE SKIN. AS SUCH TAKE APPROPRIATE CAUTION SUCH AS WEARING GLOVES.

Ingredients

  • Ghost peppers
  • Jalapeno peppers
  • Black pepper
  • Hot sauce
  • Cayenne
  • Chili powder
  • Desert sand
  • Taglock
  • Candle (red, pink, or black)
  • A glass jar or a blender
  • Gloves

Light the candle and leave it nearby. Cut open the ghost and jalapeno peppers, and layer all the ingredients in the jar, making sure the taglock is in the middle. Envision the target having an excruciating burning sensation all over their body whenever they’re around a specific person, you, or someone else, and say:

“Ashes to ashes,And ashes to dust,

By brimstone and fire,Some things should rust.Keep them apart by lick of a flame,Let the thought of them bring great pain.Burn, burn,Your skin will burn,Let your only relief be that they never return.”

Place the jar somewhere dark where you don’t visit often, and blow out the candle.

OR

Place all ingredients but the taglock into the blender, blend until smooth while envisioning the same as above, dip the taglock into the mix and let sit for a few hours. Wipe any remaining mix off and hide the cursed object in the targets home/things, and blow out the candle.
