What's Next?
Picture this: You graduate high school in the top 10th percentile of your class. You get accepted into your top pick university and you go on to join clubs, get a work-study job, and join a Greek organization. Even become the president of it. You volunteer when you can each semester, and take as many classes as you can. You graduate with a degree that you believe will allow you to do great things in life—nay, better—you graduate with two degrees and a minor after four years of hard work in college with cum laude. What next?

Bio-Luminescence
Bioluminescence in Bacteria Ever wonder why some bacteria glow? Or what makes them luminesce? Bioluminescence has been of interest for many scientists. Bioluminescence refers to the visible light that is being emitted from an organic organism, created by a catalytic enzyme within the organism. This enzyme is called luciferase, and the substrates that are involved are called luciferins. The bioluminescent process is different from other organisms which is why it is of interest for scientists to study. The structures of luciferase differ between species of bacteria, and it’s difficult to study some structures, as I will talk about later on.

The Effects of Garlic Powder on Drosophila Flies with Tumors
Abstract To determine if garlic powder had any effect on Drosophila flies that have tumors, an experiment was conducted that lasted four weeks. Furthermore, if the garlic powder did have an effect, the experiment was broken down by different concentrations of garlic powder. Within the first half of the experiment, virgin female flies containing the RET gene (ret proto-oncogene) were collected from Drosophila melanogaster stocks and bred with virgin male flies containing GAL4. Their offspring all had tumors visible on their eyes. The offspring were collected as virgins and separated from their parents. They were placed in containers that had different concentrations of garlic powder and were watched for the remainder of the experiment to see if the tumors changed. Within a few days, it was noticed that the garlic powder did affect some of the flies and that there was no noticeable difference between the different concentrations. More research needs to be conducted to understand the full impact of garlic powder on Drosophila containing tumors.

Hox Genes and the Evolution of Snake-Body Form
Abstract: Regulation of the vertebrate axial skeleton and the driving force behind the evolution of new body forms are due to Hox genes. Many hypotheses over the years have risen using Hox genes to explain snake-body form evolution. This paper will discuss some of those hypotheses.
