Civil War Movie Review
In the decades following the bloodiest conflict in American history, many have wondered what a hypothetical second civil war may bring to the nation. Alternative history has offered up many scenarios with full cinematic releases being few and far between. Releasing in a major election year no less, the provocative premise of Civil War from Alex Garland is ultimately wasted on a well-made film with shallow storylines and characters.

Fallout Series Review (Season 1)
As video games continue to push into other media, especially film and TV, many studios are betting big on potential crossovers. Adaptations on the small-screen have been rather hit-and-miss in recent years. It’s all the more surprising that Fallout, created by Graham Wagner and Geneva Robertson-Dworet, stands so tall, delivering one of the best conversions of all time.

Godzilla X Kong: The New Empire Movie Review
For the last decade, the Monsterverse from Legendary Pictures has been one of the few cinematic universes to find success outside of the superhero scene. Following some critical missteps, the long-awaited Godzilla vs Kong finally found its feet by delivering exactly what it said on the tin without the tiny humans getting in the way. Now Godzilla X Kong: The New Empire continues that trend with a serviceable outing.

Poor Things Movie Review
Yorgos Lanthimos is one of the most unique and dynamic indie filmmakers in the industry; his style, use of black comedy and an often bonkers presentation are unlike anything else on the silver screen. Having established his presence with The Lobster and The Favourite, he now turns his attention to the adaptation scene with Poor Things. It’s another fascinating and impeccably produced project.

Society Of The Snow Movie Review
When he isn’t working on large-scale blockbusters, J.A Bayona has a penchant for disaster films with a human heart at the centre. Just like The Impossible before it, Bayona and his crew have delivered another excellent production, one that brings the right amount of levity, authenticity and respectful portrayals.

Wonka Movie Review
More than fifty years after Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory delighted audiences, Roald Dahl’s classic stories have been picked up again for the silver screen. Warner Bros is hoping that a prequel with some ties to the original will win over viewers new and old. Unlike other tired franchise entries, Wonka is successful in its goals.

Rebel Moon - Part One: A Child Of Fire Movie Review
After washing his hands of superhero flicks and sharing his original vision of Justice League, director Zack Snyder is partnering with Netflix again, this time with a return to the science fiction genre. Attempting to launch a completely new franchise is a tough challenge in the modern film landscape and sadly Rebel Moon is unable to make an impression.

Chicken Run: Dawn of the Nugget Movie Review
In the year 2000, the British studio Aardman Animation made their cinematic debut with Chicken Run, bringing the art of claymation to the masses with a witty and endlessly entertaining release. The follow-up has been a long-time coming; with multiple cast changes and a release on Netflix, can Chicken Run: Dawn of the Nugget deliver? For the most part, the answer is yes.

Napoleon Movie Review
Over a long and storied career, director Ridley Scott has been a regular presence in the historical genre. Between great attention to detail and engaging narratives, his films have achieved widespread acclaim. For his latest large-scale release, Scott takes on Napoleon Bonaparte, perhaps the most decorated and successful military master in human history. This monumental figure has been covered several times in film but rarely in a full chronicle. The 2023 release is capable enough, but it does stumble in the adaptation process.

Killers of the Flower Moon
With many crime film hits through the decades, Martin Scorsese has often set the rules for the genre. The formula often involves fast-talking, violent mobsters breaking in and out of the criminal underworld. He returns to more historical trappings with Killers of the Flower Moon, another excellent production that embraces both heritage and a more emotive tone.

The Killer Movie Review (LFF 2023)
[Reviewed as part of the BFI London Film Festival 2023] In recent years, Netflix has become a major supporter for several filmmaking auteurs; following a biographical stint with Mank, David Fincher returns to a more direct storyline with The Killer. Just like his previous works, it delivers another razor-sharp package.

The Creator Movie Review
After stepping away from major franchises, UK director Gareth Edwards has returned to the silver screen with his own science fiction story; on a visual level The Creator plays to his strengths but lacks the finer detail in story and characters.
