Bradley Walsh Drops A Hint That He Is The Next 'Doctor Who' Companion
Doctor Who has seen a wide variety of actors and actresses join the Doctor on his travels through time and space.
Since it first aired in 1963, Doctor Who has seen a wide variety of actors and actresses join the Doctor on his travels through time and space. Back in the Classic Era, the companions traveled with the Doctor for an average of two seasons. However, in more recent years, many of the companions have only stuck around for just one season, including: Freema Agyeman, Catherine Tate and most recently, Pearl Mackie.
Mackie was announced as the next companion to assist Peter Capaldi as the Doctor back in 2016. This was ahead of Season 10, which aired earlier this year. Sadly, Mackie has confirmed at SDCC that she will be departing the long-running science-fiction show at the end of the year, and the Christmas Special this year will be her final appearance.
As always, when an actor or actress confirms their departure, fans step into speculation mode and start throwing names into the mix as to who they hope to see join the Doctor. Not long after Mackie broke the news that she is exiting #DoctorWho, news emerged that game show host and soap star Bradley Walsh will be taking over from Mackie for Season 11. While this remains unconfirmed, Walsh has spoken out and has dropped a rather big hint that he will be joining the new Doctor, Jodie Whittaker.
Walsh Won't Quit His Current Job To Travel In Time And Space
When approached by numerous news reporters, the BBC have reused to comment on the rumoured casting of Walsh. On the other hand, Walsh himself has come forward and commented on these rumours, dropping a hint that he (could) actually be the new companion. The news source, Metro, sat down with Walsh and asked him if he'll do The Chase whilst working on Doctor Who as the new companion. He said:
"As long as they continue to ask me, I’ll continue to make it! I just love working, it doesn’t feel like work, it’s not a proper job really is it, and as long as it feels like that, I’ll continue to do it."
That's a hint that Walsh discreetly confirmed that he is joining Doctor Who, am I right? As it stands, a large portion of fans are quite happy with this casting choice, and are excited to see Walsh join the TARDIS team in the next season.
Until the BBC actually come forward and comment on this casting rumour, fans will continue to pick out those top names and imagine them joining Jodie Whittaker for what is expected to be an exciting eleventh season.
