Let’s do a deep dive and see just what the parenthood of Han and Leia was like in both Legends and in canon.

While the original trilogy of Star Wars films sought to tell the story of Luke Skywalker, his friends, and the Rebel Alliance's struggle against the Empire, the prequel era detailed how the Republic fell. Specifically how the Jedi Order was eradicated, how Emperor Palpatine came to power, and the origins of the most iconic villain of all time, Darth Vader. The Sith Lord, formerly known as Anakin Skywalker, helped the Empire hunt down and destroy the Jedi Knights, betraying his friends, his mentor, Obi-Wan Kenobi, the Republic for which he had fought and swore to protect, and his wife, Padme Amidala.

One of the biggest criticisms of Rey in The Force Awakens is that she’s a Mary Sue; an over-powered heroine who can do no wrong. It’s hard to counter given Rey’s CV: she beats up two bandits who try to take BB8, she flies the Millennium Falcon expertly, she then suffers her one defeat; when Kylo subdues her but this then leads to her rebuking him with the Force when he tries to interrogate her. Rey then pulls the Jedi mind trick on a stormtrooper so she can escape and, finally, defeats Kylo in a lightsaber duel.

In the age of unlimited content, fandoms have grown around every popular show and movie series, spawning all kinds of expression from fans. Conventions, cosplays, passion projects, and fan fiction have become wide spread and mostly celebrated within the communities. While every fandom, including Star Wars, has their fair share of gatekeepers, bullies, and overall toxic people, they are generally outnumbered and decried by the inclusive and supportive members of the community. This idea, of positive fandom expression, is best seen at conventions and fan gatherings world wide, with Comic-Con being the standard-setter for these events.

For nearly two and a half decades, Dark Horse published Star Wars comic books starting with Dark Empire in 1991 and ending in 2014 with Darth Maul: Son of Dathomir, the only title from that era that remained part of the new canon when Disney purchased Lucasfilm. The rest of the Dark Horse Star Wars comics were rebranded to Star Wars Legends. Since 2015, Star Wars comics left Dark Horse, returning to Marvel (Marvel Star Wars originally ran from 1978-1986), and teaming up with IDW Comics for their all-ages titles.

Star Wars: Rebels gave fans a pleasant surprise when they re-introduced the fan-favorite character Grand Admiral Thrawn back into canon during Season 3. Thrawn was originally created by Timothy Zahn for his Heir to the Empire series and was a fan-favorite character, but he was thrown into Legends continuity in 2014. However, he reappeared in Rebels and kept much of his glory and infamy from the original books. He served as the major villain of the last two seasons of Rebels where he was ultimately defeated by Ezra who had them both taken to the Unknown Regions.

There are a lot of opinions out there as to which Star Wars TV show is the best. And with more and more new Star Wars series coming out on Disney+, that list of series just keeps growing. But two of the most iconic series in the Star Wars universe are The Clone Wars and the Star Wars Rebels, both of which are animated. Both have their strengths and weaknesses. And while there are fans who prefer one over the other, it can't be denied that both shows add depth to the Star Wars universe. However, while The Clone Wars is perfect for showcasing the events that happen before Anakin's turn to the dark side, Star Wars Rebels is ideal for telling the story of the world after the Empire takes over. And it does it brilliantly. Here are a few reasons why Star Wars Rebels is the best Star Wars series.

Fortress Vader, the imposing castle of the iconic villain, makes for a striking image when it is first seen in Rogue One. Rising from a volcanic ridgeline on the surface of Mustafar, the fortress was rarely visited by anyone save Vader himself. Those who did dare enter the sanctum of the dark lord rarely left.

The relationship between Star Wars and science is, shall we say, “complicated” and it has been so for more than 40 years. George Lucas and his crew created the visuals and sounds of the saga primarily from a storytelling point of view and not necessarily with scientific accuracy in mind, leading to things like sound in space, big fiery explosions when there is no oxygen or laser cannons that make the iconic pew pew when triggered. To loosely quote Han Solo, “This is not how science works.” A YouTuber from Canada has recently posted a video on his channel, depicting what the firing of the superlaser of the second Death Star would have looked like if the Empire's most impressive weapon had been equipped with more scientific accurate lasers. The result would have been devastating for the Rebels.
