Remembering When Carrie Fisher Brutally Roasted George Lucas
When the tragic passing of the much beloved Carrie Fisher was announced back in December 2016, the entire world went into mourning. Although she was best known for her role as Princess Leia in Star Wars, she was also a wonderful human being who was always up for a laugh and didn't take life too seriously, brightening up every room she entered. I remember the moment my phone gave me the notification of the news and feeling completely sad even though I obviously didn't know her personally. That's the effect she had on her fans.

Mustafar, the world where Darth Vader was born... The planet has always had an air of legend in the galaxy far, far away. The same is true in the real world from an out of universe perspective as well. Star Wars fans have known about its existence for a long time even before the prequel trilogy. The Return of the Jedi novelization detailed how Anakin Skywalker became Darth Vader on an unnamed lava planet. Many wondered just what this place was. What were the great mysteries of this planet? Just what made the place that turned Anakin into Vader so special. Well, the planet Mustafar has a bit of history to it beyond its connection to the Dark Lord of the Sith. It is a very fantastical planet that Star Wars has chosen to develop beyond what was depicted on film.

It might be a headscratcher to casual viewers of the Star Wars films if one were to acknowledge Wedge Antilles as a hero of the Rebellion. He may not be Luke, Han, Leia, Lando, Chewie, Artoo, or Threepio, but he is present in all three films of the original trilogy, during which is is instrumental in the major battles. Despite being a side character, he is a familiar face who essentially becomes an underdog to root for.

SPOILER ALERT FOR DARTH VADER #15 Revenge seems to have been Maul’s prime motivation through all these years. When he was cut in half on Naboo by Obi-Wan Kenobi, his hatred and desire for revenge kept him alive. A decade later, he wanted revenge on his former master, who had seemingly tossed him away and taken on a new apprentice to take over the galaxy. Over time, Maul’s strategy changed and evolved. The most recent Marvel’s Darth Vader #15 shows that the former Sith Lord has come to rely on power by numbers, quite in contrast to the Sith’s Rule of Two.

The much anticipated Obi-Wan Kenobi series was first announced in December last year with exciting casting details including none other than Hayden Christensen who will be reprising his role as Darth Vader. The last time we saw Christensen in the Star Wars universe was in the tragic ending of the prequels in Revenge of the Sith. Rogue One: A Star Wars Story is arguably the most successful Disney era Star Wars movie in terms of reception from both critics and fans. And some box office success certainly helps reinforce that, as well. The film introduced audiences to a new set of characters. Even though this story takes place in an era that is so familiar, right down to the aesthetics that people know mainly from the original trilogy, it got fans invested in new characters and their mission. But as interesting as they were, this was very much a one-and-done film, with the new characters meeting their ends within the final battle on Scarif at the end of the film.

The Star Wars prequels were once upon a time not as beloved as they were right now in the discourse of Star Wars. Once they were hyped, but when The Phantom Menace was released, one saw a bit of a shift in the discourse. Sometimes, it would turn downright ugly. Talk about how Star Wars had lost some of its magic or how George Lucas didn’t understand his own franchise. All those sorts of things are negative and otherwise. However, around the time of the mid-late 2010’s, we saw a shift in the dynamic regarding the prequel trilogy. More and more people over time started to come out from the woodwork saying that the prequels were their favorite Star Wars movies and in some cases loved them more than the originals.
