On Friday, November 23rd, at 12:39 AM EST, we will have a full moon in the sign of Gemini. This full moon comes just in time for Thanksgiving, as it takes place precisely on Thanksgiving night. While you're inside having Thanksgiving dinner with family and friends, outside, the full moon (while technically still in the late degrees of the sensual, food-loving sign of Taurus for the majority of the evening) will be shining brightly.

A full moon occurs when the sun is opposite the moon, representing the peak or climax of the lunar cycle. Because the two luminaries are in opposition to one another, full moons are known to highlight any opposing forces or polarities in your life, such as the balance between self and other, the balance between the masculine and feminine, and the balance between work and home.

Throughout history, full moons have been known to cause unexpected events and strange behavior. In fact, the word "lunatic," comes from the word, "luna," meaning "moon." In astrology, the moon is associated with the family, especially the mother, and all that is domestic. That means you can expect all sorts of family craziness to happen this Thanksgiving!

What to Expect from this Full Moon

This full moon will occur at 00'53 degrees, Gemini, the sign of the twins, opposing the sun in Sagittarius, the sign of the centaur and archer, a sign that ruled by the planet Jupiter, is associated with thankfulness, gratitude, and positivity. The full moon takes place at the very first degree of these two signs. This is called a critical degree and it brings about new beginnings.

As I discussed in my previous article about the New Moon in Scorpio, Jupiter has just entered it's home sign of Sagittarius, where it will be conjunct the Sun on the day of the full moon, bringing about feelings of confidence, joy and expansiveness, and may even bring about some lucky opportunities. It is a good time for self-development. As I discussed in the former article titled "Becoming the Best Versions of Ourselves," any positive changes you've made around the time of the new moon will come into fruition around this time. But that doesn't mean it's time to stop: Sagittarius is a seeker. It never stops growing, it never stops learning and evolving. There is always something more beyond the horizon. So, whatever personal goals you focused on then, I would keep focusing on now, because you're doing a great job at it.

However, if the Sun is conjunct Jupiter on the day of the full moon, the moon will be opposite Jupiter. This could bring about feelings of warmth and gratitude towards our family members, which is perfect for this time of year, but the moon is also the planet of emotions and Jupiter is the planet of expansion. This makes me think there is a danger of overreacting at this time, as our emotions will be amplified. Our sensitivities will be heightened and there is a possibility of being overdramatic and impulsive. It might have us wearing our hearts on our sleeves, and while this can be a good thing, leading to honest conversations about things that had previously been swept under the rug, we may also find ourselves reacting to things in ways that we later regret.

These impressions are echoed by the Full Moon's square to the planet Mars in the sensitive sign of Pisces. Mars is the god of war, and associated with anger and aggression. With Mars making a T-square to Jupiter and the Sun in Sagittarius and the Moon in Gemini, there is a danger of impulsive outbursts, heated arguments, losing your temper and an overall lack of self-control.

It's important to note, however, that Gemini is the sign of communication, the chatterbox of the zodiac, ruled by the planet, Mercury, messenger of the gods, and Sagittarius is also associated with honesty. This means that yes, important truths may be brought up to the surface. If you're a person who suppresses your anger or how you are feeling overall, now may be the time to let it out. This full moon may lead us to having uncomfortable conversations that we weren't expecting, especially with family members, and while it's good to get these conversations over with rather than sweep it all under the rug, just make sure that you're picking your battles wisely and not behaving in ways that you may later regret.

Finally, I can't talk about the full moon in Gemini, without talking about Mercury in Retrograde. With Gemini's ruler, Mercury retrograding through the brutally honest (and sometimes socially clumsy) sign of Sagittarius at the time of this full moon, I think we most likely will say things we'll later regret. Mercury retrograde periods are known for miscommunications and misunderstandings. It is a time when communications are known to go haywire. Sagittarius is also the sign associated with belief systems and ideology. In my article on this Mercury in Retrograde period, I mention that it could lead us to being blinded by our belief systems. This makes me think there could be a clash of belief systems at the dinner table this full moon. While it's important to call out any family members holding on to any outdated, ignorant or bigoted beliefs, I would suggest making sure you actually listen and understand what the person actually believes before making any assumptions, only because this is a time for misunderstandings.

While new moons are a time for new beginning, full moons are a time of letting go, although this full moon is kind of special, taking place at a critical degree. But isn't that what endings do? An ending leads way to a new beginning? I would say it's a good time to let go of any communication styles and/or belief systems that no longer serve you and replacing them with ones that do. Expect whatever goals you've made to come into fruition by the December 7 new moon in Sagittarius, which by the way, is also Mercury's first full day after going direct.

Happy Thanksgiving (if you celebrate it). I hope it's a happy one, filled with blessings brought to you by Jupiter, and not too stressful!
