MAY CONTAIN SPOILERS!

Saturday 26th March, 2005. This date saw the Revival of Doctor Who after it's absence for 16 years when it got cancelled. 10 years on and it's still running. In this time we are on our 4th (well 12th) Doctor. But there has been other faces as well including The War Doctor and the Meta Crisis Doctor. But lets keep it simple with numbers. In 2005 writer Russell T Davis brought back the show featuring the 9th Doctor played by Christopher Eccleston. Russell then went on in the show and wrote stories for the 10th Doctor played by David Tennant. In 2010 Russell and David Tennant left the show. That means a new Head Writer is required and a new Doctor was needed. Not to worry as Steven Moffat took over as being Head Writer and the one and only Matt Smith took up the role as the 11th Doctor. Matt played the Doctor until 2013 when we saw his regeneration's (yes there was 2. Find out later on). That's when Peter Capaldi took over as the 12th Doctor. Capaldi is still our Doctor today! In these 10 years the Doctor has had 18 companions. One of them is still with us to date. Find out about these amazing Doctors and their companions below in the 10th Anniversary Timeline.

9th Doctor - Christopher Eccleston - 2005

9th Doctor - Christopher Eccleston

Christopher Eccleston was our first Doctor since the revival in 2005. Christopher Eccleston is well known for his catchphrase 'Fantastic'. The 9th Doctor dressed in pretty much all black. But he was always seen in his black leather jacket. The 9th Doctor had 4 companions in total. These are; Rose Tyler, Captain Jack Harkness, Adam Mitchell and Mickey Smith. But without doubt Rose Tyler (Billie Piper) was his main companion. Rose is from London and fell in love with the Doctor. Rose lives with her mum Jackie Tyler. Rose's father died when she was a child after being knocked down by a car. We saw this happen half way through the Series in 'Fathers Day' featuring the Reapers. We first saw the Doctor appear when saving Rose from the Auton in a shop. His first words (well word) we heard him say was 'Run'.

Rose Tyler - Billie Piper

At the end of Episode 1 we saw Rose jump in the TARDIS along side the Doctor. Series 1 saw the return of old enemies of the Doctor such as; the Auton and the mighty Daleks. The Series introduced us to a new villain of the Doctor and these are the Slitheen from the planet 'Raxacoricofallapatorius'. We saw these in the 2 part Story 'Aliens of London' and 'World War Three'. The Slitheen then reappeared before the Series Finale in 'Boom Town'. During the Series we met Adam Mitchell. This was when we saw a Dalek again for the first time. We met Adam as he was working for his boss. At the end of that Episode Adam jumped on board the TARDIS and ended up on Satellite 5 with the Doctor and Rose. After that Episode Adam made his exit from the TARDIS. This isn't the last time we see Satellite 5 either in this Series. As we move along we meet Captain Jack Harkness. Jack saves Rose from falling in the sky and he has remained a companion of the Doctor up to date. Jack departed from the TARDIS in the Series finale. I'll get to that in a minute. Jack then went on to work for Torchwood. As the Series Finale approached the World braced itself as not only did the Daleks return but the Emperor Dalek is back! He is even bigger this time. The Doctor, Rose and Jack are on Satellite 5 (again. Well not for Jack). But they are split up. After being teleported onto a Dalek Ship, Rose sees the dangerous Daleks again! When Jack and the Doctor come to rescue her things got worse. As they were introduced to the Emperor. But he wasn't around for long. Find out in just a second. We all thought it was the end of Jack when we saw him exterminated by the Daleks. When Rose looked into the 'Heart of the TARDIS' she absorbed all the Time Energy and had the ability to bring the dead back to life. That included Jack! She also wiped out the Daleks including the Emperor by turning them to dust. The Doctor realized that the Time Energy was going to kill Rose so he had one option. This was to absorb the Energy out of Rose and put it inside his head and put it back in the TARDIS.

The 9th Doctor regenerated after absorbing the Time Energy as no one is supposed to absorb it. The Doctor said his last word to Rose; 'Time Lords have this little trick, it's sort of a way of cheating death, except, it means I'm gonna change. And I'm not gonna see you again, not like this, not with this daft old face. And before I go...I just wanna tell you - you were fantastic... absolutely fantastic... and d'you know what? So was I'. This was when he regenerated with power leaving Rose shocked! This was when we saw David Tennant take over. Sadly after having an argument with the writers Christopher Eccleston stayed for one Series. He had originally signed on for 2 Series, but left after Series 1.

10th Doctor - David Tennant - 2005 until 2010

After the Regeneration Rose is shocked to see a new face in front of her. This episode was the 2005 Christmas Special. The 10th Doctor was played by David Tennant. The 10th Doctor is well known for his catchphrase 'Allons-Y'. The 10th Doctor is also seen wearing a brown or blue suit and a long brown coat. The 10th Doctor had 12/13 companions (if you include Jackie Tyler). Most of these appeared in the Series (2-4). Whereas others were in the Specials. Rose stayed alongside the Doctor regardless his face change until the end of Series 2 in 2006. During Series 2 an old friend of the Doctors had returned for 1 episode. That was Miss Sarah Jane Smith! Sarah Jane was originally a companion of the 3rd and 4th Doctor. Also in Series 2 we saw an old enemie return. Made of metal? Can you guess? Yes the Cybermen are back and have had an Upgrade.

10th Doctor - David Tennant

After being teleported into a Parallel World, Rose could no longer see the Doctor again. But I can assure you this isn't the last time we see Rose Tyler!

After the world was torn apart in tears after Rose's exit a new face joined the TARDIS. This was 'The Woman Who Walked The Earth'. Miss Martha Jones. Played by Freema Agyeman. Martha joined the Doctor in Series 3 (2007). Rose collided with many villains such as The Family of Blood, the Daleks and the terrifying Timelord THE MASTER! The Master is also back with a new weapon. 'Laser Screwdriver', like the Doctors 'Sonic Screwdriver'. Martha did everything to help and protect the Doctor and never let anything hurt him. When the Doctor realized the Master stole his TARDIS, he knew the world was in trouble. With help from an old friend Captain Jack Harkness (John Barrowman), they aimed to destroy the Master. But with the Master making the Doctor grow old and Jack locked away all that was left Martha. Martha walked the Earth to find parts for a gun that destroys any Timelord. Once the Master worked out her plan he destroyed the gun. It then came to the Masters Wife shooting the Master. The Doctor begged for the Master to regenerate but he refused. After this event Martha left all the Time Travel behind her.

Martha Jones - Freema Agyeman

After Martha left the TARDIS another new face joined the TARDIS family. Donna Noble played by Catherine Tate. Donna Noble is known for her sarcasm and humor. Donna met Agatha Christie, the Ood and Sontarans. In the Series (4) Finale Donna also met the Daleks. But not just the Daleks but the one and only DAVROS. Davros was back to take over the world. This Finale also saw a regeneration of the 10th Doctor and changing into well 10th Doctor. The Doctor had regenerated and aimed the energy at his hand that had been cut off and put in a jar. The energy then stopped the Doctor from changing face. The energy was then stored in that jar. But when Donna was trapped inside the TARDIS she touched the Doctors hand creating the Meta Crisis Doctor! Half Timelord, Half Human. This had also made Donna part Timelord. When the Doctor realized what happened he had no choice but to erase all of Donna's memories of the Doctor, the monsters she battled and the TARDIS. If she remembered she would die. This had torn the world apart when Donna had her exit. Even the Doctor couldn't cope. That was it for the companions of the Doctors now as the 10th Doctor had no more Series. All he had was Special Episodes.

Donna Noble - Catherine Tate

The Doctor regenerated in 2010 after absorbing Radiation after saving Wilfred Mott from the Master in 'The End of Time'. Before Regenerating the Doctor went back and said a farewell to all his companions. He then Regenerated destroying his TARDIS in the process. The Ood sang to the Doctor whilst he Regenerated. Socail Media and the whole world broke down in tears when he regenerated as he is Whovians favorite NuWho Doctor. His last words 'I don't want to go' tore everyone apart. But the plus side is we saw the magnificent Matt Smith take over.

11th Doctor - Matt Smith - 2010 until 2013

Are you managing to keep up? Good! Let's carry on. Matt Smith took over the role as the Doctor in 2010. The 11th Doctor was known for many cathphrases such as 'Geronimo' and 'Bow ties are cool!'. The 11th Doctor was well known for wearing Bow ties and a Fez. Series 5 saw the Doctor take on a new companion which was Amelia (Amy) Pond played by Karen Gillian. Series 5 also had Amy's boyfriend Rory Williams (played by Arthur Darvill) pop up here and there. Well he never has much luck as he keeps dying. Series 5 saw the return of River Song (Alex Kingston). At this point we are still wondering who she is. As we progressed onto Series 6 we finally found out who River Song was. River Song turned out to be Melody Pond. Pond? Yes Melody (River) is Amy and Rory's daughter.

(From lt -rt) River Song, Rory, the Doctor and Amy

Series 7 slowly approached and we saw Amy and Rory exit the TARDIS by being 'Touched by an Angel'. After the emotional exit the Doctor struggled to recover. But when Series 7 Part 2 aired, the Doctor found Clara Oswald (Jenna Coleman) again. Clara has popped up many times in numerous places. Clara is also known as 'The Impossible Girl'. Clara was born to 'Save the Doctor'. We found this out in the Series 7 Finale 'The Name of the Doctor'. We saw the Impossible Girl jump into the Doctors Time Stream. This scattered her across the universe and she saw all of the Doctors faces. Series 7 came to a dramatic cliffhanger when we were introduced to 'The War Doctor' played by Sir John Hurt. This then lead into the well known Sci-Fi shows 50th Anniversary 'The Day of the Doctor' in 2013!

After the 50th Anniversary came the 11th Doctor's final journey. We had here found out that the Doctor had used all of his Regenerations, meaning he can't change his face again. This is where the twist happened. Clara begged the Timelords to give the Doctor another chance. The Timelords then granted the Doctor a brand new set of Regenerations now meaning he can change his face again. Matt Smiths Doctor had no choice but to Regenerate as he had grown old over the years. The 11th Doctor gave an amazing monologue to Clara before he changed. Then in a blink of an eye Peter Capaldi appeared in the TARDIS.

The 11th Doctor stayed for Series 5-7

12th Doctor - Peter Capaldi - 2014 until Present

Peter Capaldi as the 12th Doctor

Peter Capaldi took over the TARDIS from Matt Smith and had is debut Series in 2014. The 12th Doctor doesn't really have a catchphrase at the moment but i'm sure he'll pick one up as he goes along. He has had a TARDIS change to a more brighter colour as well. And what a Series that was! Clara was still with the Doctor despite his face change but we were introduced to a female Master! Michelle Gomez took up the role of Missy and became the Female Master. The Cybermen were back in this Series (8) with another upgrade. This time they can fly! We were introduced to Claras lover Danny Pink. But sadly he was knocked down by a car and died.

Jenna Coleman as Clara Oswald

There is not a lot else to say about this Doctor as he has proven his full personality. Series 9 is set to air in the Autumn this year (2015).

TARDIS Designs

Since 2005 we have had 4 different TARDIS Designs. The 9th and 10th Doctor both had the same design. The 11th Doctor had 2 different designs. One design from Series 5-6. Then Series 7 we saw a new design. The 12th Doctor had then changed the TARDIS again. See photos below.

9th and 10th Doctors TARDIS

Sonic Screwdriver Designs

9th and 10th Doctors Design

Over the 10 years we have had 2 different designs. Well technically 3 (well 4 if you include the War Doctors) as the 9th and 10th Doctor had the same Design but 10th Doctors changed colour slightly. But lets keep it simple eh? The 9th and 10th Doctor had the same design as did the 11th and 12th Doctor. We still don't know if the 12th Doctor is going to change his design. See photos below.

11th and 12th Doctors Design

There has also been so many specials over the years as well. With special guests such as Kylie Minogue. Please see my separate article about the Christmas Specials.

And that's it i'm afraid. These 10 years have been a whopping 10 years. Here's to another magnificent 10 years! Or more!
