Although April 22 (also known as Earth Day) is long behind us, it is still extremely important to take care of the planet and appreciate it every single day. One of the most life-changing things a fellow human being can do is become more eco-wise and start practicing green habits that benefit the environment. However, it can be quite difficult to take up completely new habits when you are new to the lifestyle. Luckily, this article will help out anyone seeking tips and tricks to go green. Remember, for the sake of our children and our future; we must do anything in our power to be kind to the planet Earth. Read on.

1. Limit electricity consumption

Step number one will not only help the planet, but it will also save money on the next electric bill; make sure to be mindful of the power usage. Often we tend to leave appliances plugged in even when we are not using them. Instead of doing this, try limiting electricity consumption by unplugging electronics such as the TV or the microwave when you are out and about. Also, turn off the lights whenever possible! During the day, consider taking advantage of the natural daylight instead of constantly using lamps. Also, when some electronics like laptops or phones are done charging, then unplug them! Another excellent idea to limit electricity consumption is using a surge protector for devices that use up tons of energy. This way, you will be able to turn them on and off in no time.

2. Conserve water

Secondly, consider conserving water by reducing their usage. In fact, by doing this we make sure to reduce the energy which is required to treat and pump it to our homes. Also, less money needs to be spent on various chemicals or different boreholes. Carbon emission (which is responsible for greenhouse gases and climate change)is reduced significantly as well. With all these pros of conserving water, it should be a piece of cake to limit shower time or turn off the running water in the sink. Also, leaks should be inspected as well. The faster a leak is repaired, the less water will go to waste.

3. Switch to electronic cigarettes

One of the most common habits out there is smoking. Not only does it cause harm to the human body, but it also damages the environment. Nevertheless, one way to become more eco-friendly without ditching the cigarettes altogether is switching to quality e-cigarettes. In fact, these innovative e-cigarettes are kinder to the environment than tobacco in a bunch of ways. For example, vapor cigarettes have a much lighter carbon footprint than their traditional counterparts. Also, they are designed to be reusable and may last quite a long time. Besides, there is no air pollution present when using electronic cigarettes. Finally, say goodbye to cigarette butts; these are a major threat to wildlife since they take a very long time to biodegrade. So, switching to electronic cigarettes seems like a no-brainer.

4. Recycle and clean up

Next, consider reusing products and start recycling. Begin by purchasing recycled paper; in fact, recycling paper saves natural resources and energy, as well as reducing greenhouse gas emissions. Also, it helps in keeping the landfill space free for various other types of trash that are unable to be recycled. Recycling is quite easy; for example, shop mindfully when at the supermarket and think about ways to recycle the purchased products. Materials such as paper, plastic, metal, and glass can be easily reused. Items such as used up spray cans, tin foil or even food cans are also easily recyclable. Another thing you may do is volunteer in your community and pick up the trash left in the streets or local beaches. If this is not an option, then just make sure to always pick up after yourself. Never leave trash behind you!

5. Eat less meat or go vegan

Did you know that raising animals for food requires huge amounts of food, energy, land and water? Not only this but raising livestock causes an increasing level of animal suffering globally. Also, it is a shocking fact that animal agriculture is to blame for producing more greenhouse gases than transportation systems. The simplest way to be more eco-friendly is by eating less meat. If this is a serious struggle, then start slow; consider omitting meat gradually and instead incorporate more veggies, fruits and whole-grains. Also, there are helpful local food stores out there that will provide people with sustainable options. All in all, by eating less meat you are making sure that fewer animals are farmed. This eventually leads to reduced usage of resources. So, on average, a person who chooses the vegan diet saves 4,200 liters of water daily, 20,4 kilograms of grains daily and 2.8 meters squared of forested land per day.

In summary, by taking a small step towards helping mother Earth, we are making the planet a better place for communities and new generations to come. Think smart, go green!
