WiSE

The Wilmington Stock Exchange (WiSE) afforded the banker, the hedge fund manager, and financiers of all backgrounds the opportunity to extend their time on Earth by appreciating unfettered markets. No regulator could ever shackle a stockbroker. No government busybody could interrupt the flow of funds. Now, Delawareans could do business with other parts of the country and world and not have to worry about a bureaucrat interfering. This delighted Zev Tal.

Already a United States citizen for over a decade, Tal represented the immigrants who helped to construct this country. His expertise in supplying technological and pharmaceutical companies with the capital to start or grow their enterprises allowed to draw in dollars.

Relaxed and Focused

In his office, he hung digitized replicas of the products that the companies in which he invested sold. They were gold, platinum, and diamond plaques to musicians and recording artists. These treasures reminded him of his past successes as well as encouraged him to produce more. He wore a blue pinstriped suit with an orange paisley tie. Relaxed and focused at the same time, Tal luxuriated in the fact that his efforts spawned multi-billion-dollar firms. He smiled.

An electronic cigar resided at the corner of his mouth. After a few puffs, Tal initiated his labor. The sheer liberty of trading in a complete, free market drove Tal to excel. The first order of business brought joy to Tal’s mind. It called for him to inject cash into Lesane Laboratories, Israel in Tel Aviv. This action propelled him to begin a video call with his business partner, sparring partner, and friend, Trevor Lesane. As he summoned the robot to lower the projection screen in his office and contact Lesane, Tal gathered up his notes. The screen glowed to a blue which resembled the Earth. And in a few moments, Lesane appeared.

To Study

“Young man,” Lesane said.

“How’s it going?” Tal queried.

“I think that I’ve made some considerable progress. What’s up?”

“Well, I wanted to inform you that the first checks to start the Lesane Laboratories in Israel were sent this morning,” Tal said.

“Glad to hear it, Zev,” Lesane said.

“All we need now is some more donors to supply us with the monies required for construction and development. We’re busy, my friend.”

“And this is just in time. With the unveiling of this new Drug Addiction Counteractive Agent or DACA as I am calling it, we’ve the chance of bringing further attention to the labs around the nation and world,” Lesane said.

“You speak with precision sir, I must concur,” Tal said.

Lesane stood up with his white lab coat and turned the camera to focus on the chemistry station which produced the creation that would revolutionize their lives. As a consequence, some other lives might be saved. Tal straightened his tie and looked into the videophone. He placed the e-cigar into its charger. He cleared his throat.

“Now, Trevor...this is a turning point in both of our lives, not just in business but in a personal sense, too. Roquetta and I are preparing to live in Tel Aviv as well as have a place to stay here in Delaware. I know with Saffron away at conferences that you have been tasked with taking care of the kids. What say you go with us after Saff’ gets back?”

“I’d be delighted, Zev,” Lesane said.

“Well, then you’ll just have to talk it over with the Mrs. and we’ll be set.”

“Agreed. So, what else is going on in your world?”

“I’ve plans to send 100 ki’s of coke and heroin overseas to combat the issue of addiction abroad. Those ten kilos served you well, yes?”

“They were just the right amount to study and find just the right balance. With more samples, the drugs will be employed to heal the hurt caused by chemical dependency,” Lesane said.

Realize

“I’ve no doubt that it will challenge the industry in pharmaceuticals and change how we think about using substances. Though I’m glad that they’re free to produce, manufacture, sell, and consume, the question is should we use them? And the answer should be no, from a moral perspective and yes in a political sense.

Until men and women realize the slow suicide which has claimed untold millions of lives in the senseless bellum over drugs in the past, we will continue to wallow in the depths of despair. The Great Transition provided for the first time the absolute liberty to do whatever you want as long as you didn’t violate the rights of others.

Now, it offers a principled look into self-governance. In this case of what were once illicit drugs in Delaware, the citizens responded by ensuring that crime would drop and the amount of users would skyrocket. Trev’, I’m telling you, this new development will be a bellwether in the industry. You’ve done it.”

Lesane nodded. “Thank you,” he said.

“I’ve got to tie up some loose ends around here and I’ll be in touch with you soon to discuss plans for the Tel Aviv move.”

“Yes, of course. You take care of yourself in the meantime,” Lesane said.

Unregulated

“Yes, sir,” Tal said. The screen returned to its glowing blue state. Tal took the opportunity to order some figures and calculated the expected returns from the establishment of the site in Tel Aviv. He observed the data and concluded that Lesane Laboratories could also spring up in places like South America and Africa in the wake of opening a laboratory in Israel.

The venture capitalist, hedge fund manager, and the stockbroker, and the restaurant server in him called for him to place his attention on the money. He enjoyed the fact that the Great Transition spelled an era of financiers unregulated by the nefarious eyes of securities officers failing to perform their single responsibility: protecting citizens from fraud.

No, Tal could focus on getting the dollars without worrying about his legitimate dealings being viewed as anything else but pure. He ensured himself that he would continue the struggle for free markets. And that’s what he did.
