New Rumors Claim Matt Smith Is To Make An Epic Return To 'Doctor Who' This Christmas

Doctor Who Christmas Special episodes are always full of excitement, joy and all round festivities that you wouldn't expect. In the past, the Doctor has encountered deadly spinning Christmas trees, a giant spider and the Titanic cruising through space.

With all the news regarding this year's festive episode, it's been made clear that this is going to be a Christmas Special that fans most certainly won't forget. With the return of the First Doctor, Bill Potts and a selection of companions from the Classic Era, what more could we ask for? With new rumors emerging, it appears departing showrunner Steven Moffat wants to add one more addition to what is his final episode for the hit BBC series.

A Fan-Favorite Doctor To Return?

According to Twitter and Instagram, a fan has spotted well-known Matt Smith filming this year's special episode entitled "Twice Upon A Time." It is claimed a woman saw Smith sat with a little girl and actress Pearl Mackie, who plays departing companion Bill Potts.

Smith first joined the time travelling science fiction show in 2010 when he took over as the Doctor from David Tennant. Smith's run as the Eleventh Doctor came to a close in the 2013 Christmas Special when he regenerated in front of his companion Clara Oswald.

Following the rumored return of the Eleventh Doctor, fans have taken to social media to question the rumor to find out if it is in fact true. However, as it stands, there's no luck whatsoever apart from two Tweets written in capital letters implying the rumor is true.

The Instagram user @doctorwhozone has written up a list of 'massive potential spoilers' spilling out numerous leaks from this year's special and Season 11, which airs in the New Year. The list of spoilers explains that Season 11, will have hour long episodes (which has been recently rumored by The Mirror), the Twelfth Doctor will regenerate whilst falling, Matt Smith's return and the new Doctor's costume will be revealed in November.

But, this list unfortunately has no official back up source, meaning these rumors could be fake. Until the BBC confirm any of this, fans wait patiently for the good or bad news.

In the past, Matt Smith has stated that if the BBC were to ask Smith back for one more episode, he would 'consider any approach and take it very seriously' before deciding if he wants to fly the iconic blue box for another epic adventure.

It has been previously reported that Jenna Coleman will be reprising her role as Clara Oswald this Christmas to wave off the Twelfth Doctor when he regenerates. So, if that rumor is true, then it makes perfect sense and works well on how Smith can make one final return to make the Christmas special the best it can possibly be.

Peter Capaldi will face his final battle as the Doctor this Christmas before handing over the TARDIS key to the new Doctor, Jodie Whittaker, who's first season is expected to air 'in late 2018.' Whatever happens, it's obvious Steven Moffat is going all out for his final Doctor Who episode!
