It has been a year since Jodie Whittaker was announced as Peter Capaldi's replacement in the long running BBC series Doctor Who, and everything from plot to monsters has been kept under strict confidence until today (15th July 2018). During the World Cup grand final between France and Croatia on BBC One, the Half Time break was taken to a new level when viewers were fully introduced to the cast of the eleventh series of the science-fiction show.

As the 50-second trailer unfolded, fans got glimpses of the three new companions Graham (Bradley Walsh), Yasmin (Mandip Gill) and Ryan (Tosin Cole), before the Doctor (Jodie Whittaker) herself appeared and gave us that convincing grin. The trailer showing off the series comes seven months after Whittaker made her debut appearance in the show during the 2017 Christmas Special Twice Upon A Time.

More Footage IS On the Way

The trailer itself follows the Series 10 teaser trailer and was a specific shot trailer, which let some fans down. By a specific shot trailer I mean there's no clips from episodes showed to viewers, just promotional content gearing us up for what is to come later on. With no plot details shared, no new TARDIS interior shared and no new Sonic Screwdriver shared, fans are beginning to question what we can expect next.

After the teaser trailer was released, BBC America took to Twitter to announce that new Doctor Who footage will be released on Thursday as San Diego Comic Con unfolds. At SDCC on Thursday, Jodie Whittaker will headline the Doctor Who panel alongside her co-stars, Mandip Gill and Tosin Cole alongside the new showrunner Chris Chibnall (Broadchurch). Sadly, Bradley Walsh can't make the event as he's too busy with commitments at ITV as he will be filming the quiz-show The Chase.

The Comic Con panel in Hall H is expected to reveal a full trailer, showing clips from the series to come. Whether it'll be a short trailer or a long trailer, fans will have to wait and see what the panel will actually entail. As well as a suspected trailer, it is expected that other clips, secrets from the series and behind-the-scenes news is expected to be shared with hardcore Whovians as Doctor Who fans call themselves.

Series 11 Is Full Of Brilliance

In an exclusive interview with Entertainment Weekly Jodie Whittaker has said her "two go-to words are 'Brilliant' and 'Ace'. I'll try to get the Doctor an 'Ace!' in there somewhere." As her interview with EW went on, Whittaker was asked if the experience has lived up to her expectations so far, and her answer is just what you wanted to hear. She said:

"Yeah, absolutely, There is an element of 'you are the Doctor for the rest of your life' and that's an honour, and also will be at times probably overwhelming. But that's the joy of when art reaches the masses. I'm given this platform, and everyone works their arse off to get it seen, and I can't moan about that. I have had only the positive so far."

Whittaker's casting comes after the Master regenerated into a female (Missy, played my Michelle Gomez). Following the positive outcome of Gomez's casting, Chibnall took the gamble to cast a female Doctor, which has divided fans. There is no confirmed release date as of yet, but the release is rumoured to be in October on BBC One and BBC America. However, we're expecting to find out on Thursday at Comic Con.

Are you excited to see Jodie Whittaker in action this autumn when Series 11 kicks off in style?
