The rapid rate of urbanization has initiated an array of challenges among major cities in India. The massively growing population is one of the major issues faced by the metropolitan cities.

Urban cities offer excellent job opportunities and enhanced lifestyle. These offerings attract a number of migrants from different parts of the country. Migrants settle in these locations to leverage the benefits.

This results in the paucity of space in the metropolitan cities. Moreover, infill development alone couldn’t fulfill the housing needs. The developable land witnessed a hike in prices as the demand was rising with no change in supply. This was one of the main reasons for the emergence of satellite cities.

Satellite cities are planned cities, which emerged to manage and contain the urban sprawl. The purpose of these cities is to create a perfect balance between the population and available resources, for an environment-friendly and sustainable development. Developed outside the metro cities, they could be standalone cities.

Unlike a suburb, satellite cities are independent and self-contained. They provide most of the conveniences and facilities to the residents, which the major cities offer. In the vicinity of major cities, satellite cities are established with an aim to create affordable housing for a major chunk of the society. Residents of these cities get access to infrastructure facilities, job opportunities, as well as commercial and residential spaces.

A relatively new concept of urbanization in India, satellite cities have gained prominence across the country. The increasing housing needs in cities like Delhi, Mumbai, and Hyderabad led to the expansion of their peripheries.

The national capital, Delhi, witnessed an emergence of cities such as Gurgaon, Noida, Faridabad, and Ghaziabad. Developing rapidly, all these four cities offer first class infrastructure along with a tranquil ambience. Gurgaon and Noida became corporate hubs, offering a range of office complexes. Besides, developers like DLF, Earth Infrastructure and Raheja Developers have been playing a crucial in erecting luxurious residential spaces in prominent locations of these cities.

Satellite cities of Mumbai — Navi Mumbai, Dombivli and Thane — also came up offering a robust infrastructure and great connectivity to the other parts of the state. Comparatively, these are less populated and offer great transportation facilities. Besides, Navi Mumbai also has Metro Rail, and International Airport, becoming the most convenient location for the migrants.

Emerging as the No.1 city in India, the capital city of Telangana, Hyderabad is also in the league. Its hub of Information Technology (IT), HITECH City is the technology township, also known as Cyberabad. Spread over an area of 30 acres, HITECH city offers lavish residential and commercial spaces.

Besides, the twin city of Hyderabad, Secunderabad also turned up to contain the urban sprawl. Fabricating its own identity, the city is pulling in a great deal of real estate investments, especially in the luxury segment.

Realtors like Ramky Group, Modi Builders, and Prestige Group are moving to this city and creating affordable luxuries. Besides the apartments, villas for sale in Secunderabad are the most preferable option amongst the property buyers, as it offers space and comfort, along with affordability.

Satellite cities have proved to be a massive development in the country. Apart from helping in housing the population, they also gave rise to the realty developments. Becoming the most preferred, they are offering superior quality of living to the dwellers.
