"I am undergoing treatment and am more than optimistic about a satisfactory outcome, as indeed is a medical team". - Sir John Hurt
"I am continuing to focus on my professional commitments and will shortly be recording Jeffrey Bernard Is Unwell for BBC Radio 4" - Sir John Hurt

John wanted to announce his diagnosis to the press because he has "always been open about the way in which I conduct my life and in that spirit I would like to make a statement."

Hurt is well known for his role in The Elephant Man and Midnight Express and has received Academy Awards for both of these productions. Hurt will also be starring in David Yates' movie Tarzan which will be released in July next year.

John was well known last year in November for starring as the War Doctor (warrior/ forgotten incarnation of the Doctor) in Doctor Who. Alongside David Tennant and Matt Smith.

We are all praying for John and that he will beat his cancer!
