On Saturday, May 4, at 6:45 PM EST, we will have a New Moon in Taurus at 14'10 degrees. Here's what you can expect.

What is a new moon?

A new moon represents the beginning of the lunar cycle when the moon is conjunct the sun and invisible to the human eye. They are a good time for fresh starts and new beginnings. It is a good time to start a new project or make a radical change. It's also a good time to find clarity on what you want and release what no longer serves you. The effects of a new moon generally last for about two weeks, up until the next full moon.

With the new moon in Taurus, we can expect new beginnings related to our belongings and our sense of security, as well as our abilities to be patient and perseverant. Its effects will last up until the full moon in Scorpio on May 18. It may help to think back to what was going on around the time of the last full moon. It may also help to look back at what was going on in your life around the time of the full foon in Taurus on October 24, 2018, for certain themes could be repeating themselves.

New Moon in Taurus 2019

The moon is actually exalted in Taurus, making it a comfortable sign for it to be in. Taurus is a fixed earth sign, at home in the realm of the five senses. The stress of modern life often has many of us living in our heads. Often, we are unaware of how much of an effect environment has on our moods. This new moon is a good time for grounding, being at home in our body. By paying attention to our bodies, we become more attuned to what we really need and feel.

As I said, the new moon in Taurus could bring us new beginnings related to our belongings, our sense of security, as well as our environment. It will also help us to develop qualities of patience and perseverance. It's a good time for setting goals, as the fixed qualities of Taurus will help us stick to it and its earth element will help us put them into action.

Themes of self-improvement are further emphasized by the New Moon's sextile to the north node in Cancer (and trine to the south node in Capricorn). The north node is all about what we are striving for, and the south node is what we are letting go. If you want to quit a bad habit, or get into the habit of doing something good, like a daily meditation practice or a new diet, now is a great time to do so.

The new moon in Taurus will also be aided by an aspect from the planet Neptune. Neptune at 18 degrees of its home sign Pisces will be making a sextile the Sun and the Moon. Neptune is a spiritual planet, helping us to develop a connection between soul and body. We could be immersed in our environments, leading to feelings of heightened intuition and empathy. We’re all a bit softer, kinder, and may be inspired to give to others during the time this new moon is in effect. It’s a good aspect for healing, therapy, Dream work and spiritual practice. This is also a beneficial time to start new projects related to art and/or music. Taurus is ruled by Venus, planet of beauty and aesthetics, so visual art is especially favored.

The opposition between Mars in Gemini and Jupiter in Sagittarius may be a challenging influence. Feelings of anger may be exaggerated and verbal sparring is likely. These feelings of anger could be coming from a place of righteousness, but we need to be careful so we don’t overreact before knowing the full situation. I believe the new moon in Taurus will help us channel these feelings of anger and aggression into a healthier outlet.

Overall, I think this new moon will be a grounding yet spiritual influence. The new moon in Taurus teaches us that by listening to our bodies, we can become more attuned to our souls.
