Star Wars: Rogue One Actor Promotes Film's Nostalgic Feel
Alan Tudyk, of 'Con Man', talks about the importance of using real props on 'Star Wars: Rogue One.'
With the release of the official poster for 'Star Wars: Episode VII — The Force Awakens' as well as the impending trailer drop tonight during Monday Night Football; everyone's eyes are firmly fixed on this upcoming movie. Yet The Force Awakens isn't the only Star Wars film coming soon. Rogue One: A Star Wars Story is set to be the first of the anthology of galaxy spanning adventures set as a prequel of sorts.
Alan Tudyk, who is no stranger to the lifestyle of the space-traveler and probably best known for his character Hoban 'Wash' Washburne from Joss Whedon's cult hit; Firefly as the pilot of the Serenity. Tudyk was promoting his web series, Con Man, as he touched based on the Star Wars offshoot.
"You are amazed at what you can look at, because it's a physical world, if there are creatures, then there are creatures; if there are spaceships, then there are spaceships. It's not huge swaths of green hung from the rafters. You have it all there, and if you don't have it there then you go fly some place that does."
Based on Tudyk's comments we can envision the nostalgic feel on set as the actors are filming with real props and real characters rather than the green screen that so often envelops the standard sci-fi film. Yet, we all know Star Wars is anything but your standard romp through the stars.
The film itself is set to delve into the story of, you guessed it Rogue One, the team of rebels who set out to steal the Death Star plans. Their actions set up the original trilogy of films and the director Gareth Edwards knows everything that is riding on this movie which is why it seems that he has chosen to approach Rogue One with the same physical sets that we were given in the first films so many years ago.
Rogue One is set to build from the foundation for the franchise's rebooted universe through The Force Awakens. The House of Mouse seems keen to let the nostalgic approach ride with Rogue One and the remaining films in the anthology as they will focus primarily on the adventure and action outside of the Skywalker & Solo family.
I don't know about you, but his comments have me really excited about Rogue One.

Was I a Model in Japan?
During my time in Nagoya I worked and lived at the strangely famous hostel and café Nagonoya. With its chequered floors and florescent lighting it felt quite dated, but I think that was supposed to be part of the charm. The dorms were always fully booked on weekends with domestic tourists and there was always a buzz in the downstairs café. Camera crews were constantly in and out of the place interviewing the Japanese staff members who worked the café. I think it had something to do with the egg sandwiches. At least that was what was on most of the merchandise, except for that one dishcloth with the owner’s face on it. Was I being employed by a local celebrity?
