Star Wars, Too Much of a Good Thing?

Back in 2010, I remember my 15 year old self angry at Disney purchasing the Star Wars franchise and saying that they were going to continue the series. I remember thinking, "Oh come on they wrapped it up nicely just let it be."

Fast forward to December 15th, 2015 where you could find me at the premiere 2 and a half hours early so I could get a good seat. Clearly, I ate my words from 2010 since I was back on the hype train. That being said, when episode 7 was released that is where all of the focus was being drawn, to the single film itself.

Two years later, I sit here writing this article just now remembering that episode 8 will be out in less than a month. It seems that the new film itself has been lost in the sea of "Rian Johnson announced to direct new Star Wars Trilogy" or "New Star Wars Live-Action TV Series being developed," and other such news that comes out every single day. In theory, the idea of a new Star Wars each year excites me, I loved The Force Awakens and I adored Rogue One: A Star Wars Story. What bothers me is that, at this rate, a new Star Wars will be released every year and deplete the excitement I have for each new entry. It's like having Rocky Road Ice Cream every single day, you would eventually never want Rocky Road Ice Cream again because you're so tired of it and you want something new. I don't want to live in a world where Star Wars doesn't excite me. After 10 years of not being in a theater, when the opening crawl for The Force Awakens came on I was overly excited. I know I'll be excited for The Last Jedi in the upcoming weeks, but I don't know if it'll be the same amount of excitement I had for the previous entry. The excitement will slowly deplete with each film that comes along and I truly don't want that. What about in 10 years when we have 10 more Star Wars movies. And this is strictly talking about the films right now, I'm not even getting into the spin off media which you know is already everywhere. The bananas on my counter currently have C3PO on them. Star Wars is everywhere! As I've said before this isn't a bad thing, I just truly don't want Disney to run this franchise into the ground. I remain skeptical about future installments, but in a good kind of skeptical. I'm not your average r/movies troll on Reddit who just wants Paul T. Anderson movies and is "so over all of these Marvel movies" as well as "honestly Disney hasn't come out with a good movie in years." That being said, I'm not easy to please, but I like to appreciate every little thing that speaks to me in a film.

So how am I supposed to be excited for the upcoming one when I'm already feeling fatigue from a franchise that hasn't even released the films it's announcing? Is too much Star Wars a bad thing? Should they space (hahaha nice pun) them out more? Will midichlorians ever be fully explained? I don't know. I may never know.

(Writer's note: If we ever get to the point where Jar-Jar gets his own spin-off movie that's when we'll know that it should just die already.)

(Writer's note part 2: Okay maybe if they had the right writer I could be on board. Imagine a gritty crime noir drama starring Jar-Jar and Boba Fett. Too much? Yeah I've had too much coffee. That sounds like either the best idea or the worst. Let me know if I'm insane please and thank you.)
