Doctor Who is one of the world's most loved shows since it began back in 1963 until it was cancelled in 1989 due to the show's ratings dropping massively. However, the show was revived in 2005 by Russell T Davies with Christopher Eccleston as the Ninth Doctor. Davies then passed the baton onto Steven Moffat, who then passed it onto Chris Chibnall at Christmas last year.

The episodes, the characters, the monsters, and the overall adventure feel are some of the show's most anticipated items, but the soundtrack to the hit BBC science-fiction show by Murray Gold (since 2005) has gone down extremely well with Doctor Who fans and they just can't get enough of it. Across the years, fans have fallen in love with certain tracks: "Doomsday," "Song of Freedom," and "The Long Song" are some examples. However the soundtrack "Breaking the Wall" from Series 9 has become widely popular and a lot of fans are now calling it their favourite track by Murray Gold and are desperate to hear a clean copy of it.

Usually after the latest series finishes its broadcast on BBC One, the soundtrack album swiftly follows it and hits streaming sites and stores rather quickly. With fans falling in love with multiple tracks from Series 9, which aired in 2015, we're all still waiting for the album to be released. Two years after the series finished its run, Silva Screen finally revealed that the Series 9 soundtrack will be released. In December 2017, Silva Screen Records said:

"The long-awaited release will be a 4 disc set with disc 1 containing cues from The Magician’s Apprentice, The Witch’s Familiar, Under The Lake, Before The Flood, The Girl Who Died and The Woman Who Lived; and disc 2 containing cues from The Zygon Invasion, The Zygon Inversion, Sleep No More, Face The Raven and Hell Bent. Disc 3 will contain the score from the Series standout episode – Heaven Sent. 4 will contain the score to the 2015 Christmas Special – The Husbands Of River SongAs with the Series 8 release, the first run of CDs will contain an additional booklet collecting Stuart Manning’s retro poster designs for each episode."

That may have pleased fans, but what didn't make fans happy was that they never stated a release date for the highly anticipated soundtrack. All that was stated was "early 2018." Analysing our current situation in 2018, it is no longer "early 2018" and we are a quarter of the way through the year and the soundtrack is yet to be released, which is causing frustration amongst hardcore Doctor Who fans.

On Wednesday 14 March, Vocal Media Creator, Lewis Jefferies, contacted Silva Screen Records for a comment regarding the release of the Series 9 soundtrack, and unfortunately it's not good news. In a statement, they said:

"Normally we wouldn't announce the soundtrack until we had all the parts (artwork/music etc.) in place and approved for manufacture. In this case, as it had been such a long time since the Series 8 soundtrack, we let everyone know that there was going to be one as soon as we knew ourselves, in order to set people's minds at rest. The down side of that is that it now seems like a long wait for the announcement of the release date!"

Reassuring fans that the soundtrack is definitely happening, a spokesperson from Silva Screen added that the project is progressing and only requires a couple more things:

"We are slowly moving forward on this and are just waiting for a couple more things, then we will have everything we need and will be able to announce the release date and what form the release will take."

For now, fans will have to sit tight and keep an ear out for further news regarding the soundtrack. It remains unknown if the Series 10 soundtrack will be released alongside Series 9 or if that will come later on in the year. Whilst fans wait, the Class (Doctor Who Spin-Off) composer Blair Mowat has confirmed the soundtrack to the one series spin-off is being a finalised and is almost ready for release.

Doctor Who returns to our screens this Autumn where Jodie Whittaker debuts in her first series as the Doctor.
