The Winter Forecast for 2018/19

El Nino Forecast from May 2018 told us to prepare for extreme HOT temps. Not the Buffalo, NY El Nino Burrito, kind of hot, either.

It was very relieving to read that all 12 Thai boys, along with their soccer coach, were successfully rescued from their harrowing ordeal being trapped in a flooded cave! Even Elon Musk went to lend a mini-sub and help work out rescue plans. The Discovery Channel is planning a documentary on the rescue of all 13 people, OPERATION THAI CAVE RESCUE. The coach and 12 boys became trapped during an on-foot exploration of Tham Luang Cave in Northern Thailand after it flooded. They were lost for 10 days until they were located. Amazingly, all were still alive and successfully rescued! The only casualty was Thai NAVY Seal who perished while setting up oxygen tanks along a rescue tunnel. When the most experienced divers lose their life, you can see why it took several more days to initiate a successful rescue. Not all the boys could swim, but each of the 13 had two divers as escort. Not to mention a blessing from a famous Buddhist Monk. In groups of four, they had to swim underwater for two miles, in sometimes murky water. A water pump, and oxygen, had been set up. They were simultaneously pumping water out of the cave, and pumping oxygen in so the 'Lost Boys' could breathe. Just as the rescue ended, the rescue teams water pump failed. Thailand's Monsoon Season had just started, and the Monsoon waters they managed to keep at bay flooded back in.

Meanwhile, in Hawaii, the Earthquakes from the eruption of Mount Kilauea and Mauna Loa have been winding down in small increments. Here in North America, Hurricane Chris - a Category 2 Hurricane -threatens the Atlantic Coast & deadly fires in California have been raging. As seen from Space, here's the April 2018 in Oklahoma.

July 1985 Heat-Wave

Back in the mid 1980's, Western New York got pretty hot. Every day was an adventure. A ride to the pool (or anywhere for that matter) in a car that had a broken A/C, made road trips through Death Valley seem cold. My grandmother's giant powder-blue Cadillac was a sexy, hot ride. I can say that now that I'm an adult and I've had an unsexy, crappy car (Ford Escorts suck!) or two. My grandmother's Caddy had powered-windows, powered-seats, and when the Air Conditioner broke, it was complete with just hot air & the sweet smell of Freon blowing ineffectively out the open windows, while she drove the country roads. We gave up trying to turn the dials on every setting, and desperately tried to keep cool by rolling the windows down, until we got to the pool. I'm pretty sure that pool is long gone now. It was possible the sweet smell was gum stuck somewhere in the blue velour fabric. Either under one of the front seats, or in the deep recesses of the back seat. Perhaps both? At least no one ever got carsick! Not that I can remember, anyway. I was only 9 years old that year, but I cannot ever forget that Summer. How even though we were so close to Lake Ontario (it was about 50-100 ft. from their back door), my grandmother drove me through Newfane, NY in her cool blue Caddy, just so I could swim in a pool with other kids. During that heat-wave of 1985, I think the local officials had decided to fill in some old, abandoned cement well. It was in the most randomness of country locations. Here in WNY, the weather rivaled what I knew of Southern California's hottest days. My mother had orange vinyl pleather seats in her orange Dodge Omni. Those seats get hot as hell out there!

July 2018 Heat-Wave

So here we are in 2018 with THE HOTTEST days (so they say) on record around Buffalo, NY, finally over. I hope! I live in Niagara Falls now and it felt like 109! Even though the Weather Forecast said 90, 89, 92...feels like 100?? No way! I'm pretty sure it was 102, feels like 109! I don't think they get the temps right, because every summer it seems like the Weather Channel is wrong. But I was glad I invested in an A/C this year! Last year, my apartment got hot. But heat rises and I'm on a second-floor. Which is the first in years. Okay ever! I never had a second floor apartment. In fact, I had a trailer that had central air conditioning for a few years, but I'm getting off the subject of El Nino, heat waves, and weather patterns. Bear with me!

El Nino & El Nina Weather Patterns

El Nino is NOT just a Burrito that was made famous by Buffalo's Mighty Taco. Imagine my surprise when I discovered my favorite taco place was FROM Buffalo, NY! How did I not learn this before? Anyway, El Nino is the warming of the Pacific Ocean waters, which pushes warmer air around the Arctic. I have no idea why it is only the North and not the South Pole, too. I think it has something to do with the Jet Stream and how that flows mostly north of the Equator. Apparently, the Iceberg's that break off the Antarctic, in the South Pole, also flow to the warmer north waters, close to the Equator. It's also the Salt Water and buoyancy...anyway, El Nino's happen periodically, following a pattern. Depending on which cycle, hot places get hotter, and it gets COLDER where it's usually cold.

El Nino Weather Pattern

The two-year cycle from our last El Nino ended in 2016. We are entering a cooling phase, which happens every 120 years or so. The 2-7-year cycles of either El Nino or La Nina (which is the opposite of El Nino: Colder Oceans), happen regularly during the 120-year phases. So, another El Nino, so early, has worried all the Weather Doctor's, and Meteorologists...and OH. Yea. People like...ME. Ever watch '50 Below'? I love it! I have no idea why. I like walking into Might Taco and ordering a Super Mighty. I could never eat fresh fish eggs! Straight from Momma fish?! Nooo, Thank-You. Yech!

If we pay attention, our present weather compared with past weather patterns not only tell us how 2019 will be, it also allows us to predict how Winter 2018 will be. El Nino (and La Nina) has far-reaching, catastrophic effects, on a global scale. Of course, the scientists are all yelling 'Global Warming'!! But it's been proven true. When our Oceans shift, either by our tectonic plates moving, or strong weather patterns, it brings more moisture into the atmosphere and environment. El Nino redistributes weather patterns...worldwide. The more rain and humidity, the more precipitation. In a way, this acts like a blanket. More heat means hotter summers. When our upper atmosphere is saturated with humidity & moisture, where it then gets cold and freezes, that brings a longer, colder winter.

The Weather Forecasters are predicting the Northern Hemisphere pattern from now until September to be above average temperatures. Yes, we know, rain please? Because that 'Heat Dome' that moved to the Mid-West, and further to the Southwest, needs a ton of RAIN in their forecast. There are Wildfires due to excessive heat in California and Colorado. The Northern Hemisphere has a prediction for November - December to be wetter than normal. I bet it rains on Halloween, and then snows a ton, until mid-March. This past May it was snowing! I took pictures to prove it. Here's a cool site I found for Climate Prediction & Weather Forecasts! If we are due for a long Winter 2018/19, PUH-LEASE let it start in November! Ya know, a normal season for a change? Just thought I would send my plea out, in case the weather controllers from HAARP or like from that movie 'The Avengers' can read this? Also, I would really like to win the lotto...Super Mighty Burrito's at Mighty Taco are a treat best eaten in the middle of the night. No matter the weather! They aren't going to walk to me, ya know. Especially during that December/January 2018-19 blizzard I hope we get!
