What Is Hoodoo?

In Brief

Hoodoo is one of the many witchcraft practices available to study. Hoodoo and Voodoo are often linked but hoodoo is also called rootwork. Hoodoo comes from the South, a region in the United States that fosters this path also called Conjure. Hoodoo is not necessarily Vodou, but it does mix the religion of the Congo slaves that were kidnapped from Africa to use in the slave trade. Also found under the heading of hoodoo is Native American herbal folklore, some European folk magic, and a dose of Jewish mysticism. Witchcraft of the type of Hoodoo is not necessarily a religion but a magical system that requires study. Some rootworkers are Protestant Southern Baptists who read the bible as well as pray Christian prayers such as reciting psalms.

Some conjurers even go out on a limb and practice Catholicism, in addition to root work, in places like Maryland. I make sure to go to at least one Hoodoo presentation at Pantheacon. I also buy my chamomile tea. We hoodoo practitioners believe in the use of herbs as well as candle magick and psalms. I do not use candle magick at home because I don’t want to burn the house down. This has actually happened to some people. Fire is a difficult element to control and should never be played with. I don’t even burn incense anymore.

I use sage spray to clean the house’s energy now. It is highly effective. I have Commanding powder, I need Compelling powder and Controlling powder. Hoodoo practitioners also believe in the use of oils and floor wash to cleanse psychic energy in a house or other location. The powders mentioned above do something to help you inspire your will onto others who normally do not respect what your will is, Lucky Mojo states that their supplies are “designed to give you the power to lead, govern, and enforce your will on others.” (http://www.luckymojo.com/commanding.html) These devices are tools to be in command of a situation when another doesn’t do what you suggest. Some of these powders help individuals with their “mental force.” I need to order Compel/Control powder. This style of practice is referred to as “laying down tricks.” I use it because some people in my life I cannot mention are busy trying to control me, as in my family. They see my disability as a way to control me. If they could. Sometimes, some people with the ability to manipulate/control others with psychic energy do run your life if you let that happen.

This is why the powders are useful for me. You can also get bath crystals that allow for an infusion of the power and needed commands in your body. There is a list of psalms that are chanted and spoken of when you do a conjure. The psalms are power words that help you focus your energy. Compelling powder can be used with love spells but I’m not into love spells right now. In fact, I’m into avoiding relationships. I need to be single for a while. A good long while. No love spells for me. If anything, I need to focus on myself.

Hoodoo root work is about herbs and magical correspondences. As in, what moon cycle do you need to cast a particular spell? What day of the week and what astrological correspondence you need. I need to take a hoodoo class since I know something about hoodoo but seemingly not enough. I need to take a course, and I think Lucky Mojo has one yet I cannot start it until I finish Greyschool and do I ever need to finish my psychic arts degree so I can become a Tarot reader among other things.
