Why We Need to Change

The Problem That Will Outlive Us if We Don’t Act Now

Global Warming, we hear so much about it in modern politics and news, how the earth is getting warmer and warmer by the day, how the sea levels are rising, and how animals are dying. But I feel we are still not talking about it enough. The Earth is a gift, but it is not ours to destroy. By destroying it, like we are at this very moment, we are possibly taking away the future lives of billions, even trillions of humans.

Think not of the Earth as a gift that we can do with as we please, but as an heirloom that we need to keep healthy for future generations to come. We are not doing enough to fix this. Without this beautiful planet, we would have nothing and be nothing. And yet people still debate whether or not Global Warming exists. We do not have the luxury to argue about its existence anymore. It has been over 100 years since the discovery of the Greenhouse Effect, and all throughout the 1900s humans knew what they were doing, and still continued. They left the problem for the next generation, who left it to the next, and so on. And now it is up to us.

We are potentially one of the last generations of Humans, and we are doing absolutely nothing to stop it. The President of the United States withdrew from the Paris Accords because he believed it was a waste of taxpayer money. But what no one seems to understand is that everyone's life is being affected by this. It is ridiculous that the President of the United States does not acknowledge this issue, and is doing things that will further worsen this problem. We were given a gift, and we are destroying it. We are destroying it to save money, time, and effort. But we have all of these things because of the thing we're destroying.

It is estimated that by 2050, the effects of Global Warming will be irreversible. And we can't just keep avoiding this, we have to act now. It's very easy to feel small in today's world, as the amount of people is growing and growing, and it seems like your impact is becoming smaller and smaller by the minute. But everyone can do something. Even the simplest things could help, such as recycling, composting, and so much more. These tiny things will help us one day to solve Climate Change and ensure the lives of billions, trillions, maybe even quadrillions of lives, Human and not.

If you consider the Holocaust to be a tragedy, then Global Warming would make the Holocaust look like nothing. It will eventually kill off all life on the planet if we don't stop it. We cannot continue to keep pushing this off, it is now or never. We will all die if we do not fix this. Another effect of Global Warming that's not talked about often is the Carbon Cycle. The Carbon Cycle is the cycle in which Carbon cycles through the environment. As we all know, Carbon is absorbed by trees, and is then convert into oxygen. A cycle that keeps us and trees alive. Well, we've been killing mass amounts of trees daily, and producing crazy amounts of humans, disrupting the ratio and the cycle. Another main part of the Carbon Cycle is the intake of carbon from the oceans. All water absorbs carbon, and releases it at a normal rate, acting somewhat as carbon storage. However, as we heat up the Earth, including the oceans, the water begins to absorb less carbon, and release more. It starts an endless cycle of factories producing carbon, heating up the earth and oceans, which release more carbon, heating the earth up more, etc... We are the last generation that has the ability to stop global warming, and so far we're not doing a great job taking advantage of this literal once in a lifetime opportunity. But luckily, it's not to late. Not luckily, we're running out of time. We need to act fast and change, and that includes you and me. It is time to change. Billions of humans are counting on you.
