Could the Boba Fett Standalone Star Wars Film Take Place AFTER 'Return of the Jedi'?

Disney is looking to create the origin story of Boba Fett much like they plan on doing for Han Solo, but is there a better story out there?

Ever since Disney took control of the Star Wars franchise it has been known that they plan on attempting to make films separate from the original saga.

There are three projects that we know for sure are in the works:

  • Rogue One
  • Han Solo Standalone
  • Boba Fett Standalone

I have my own personal opinion on how they could make Rogue One better and why a Han Solo origin film is a bad idea, but I will save those for a different article. This is about everyone's favorite bounty hunter Boba Fett.

The rumors surrounding the Boba Fett movie is that it will take place between the time during Attack of the Clones and Empire Strikes Back. It seems that Disney is looking to create the origin story of Boba Fett much like they plan on doing for Han Solo, but is there a better story out there? One that takes place after Return of the Jedi?

But Boba Fett died in Return of the Jedi...

At the beginning of Return of the Jedi, Jabba takes Han, Luke, and Chewie to the Great Pit of Carkoon to be eaten by the Sarlacc.

Boba Fett is helping to escort them and after the three attempt their escape, Boba Fett is embarrassingly killed when Han accidentally hits his jet pack and Fett goes flying into the Sarlacc's mouth.

This was a terrible scene that saw the end of a fan favorite character. It made Boba Fett, the bad ass look like a moron and leave people wondering how he had lasted as long as he did.

But what if I told you he wasn't dead?

What if Boba Fett actually survived after falling into the Sarlacc's mouth, and fought his way out of the beast?

Boba Fett, despite his embarrassing death is still a hard man to kill, and a movie showing his escape would make up for the terrible treatment the character received from George Lucas.

Making the movie as a sequel instead of a prequel will wash the bad taste out of fans mouth, and allow for more creative freedom for a story as apposed to making restricting the plot to during the Episode 2-5 time frame.

Also, while I know that it is not canon, in the EU Boba Fett does escape the Sarlacc and live on for more adventures. So there is some ideas to draw inspiration from out there.

Maybe it is just me, but I do not care to get invested in a Boba Fett origin story when I already know he dies because a blind Han Solo accidentally knocks him into a giant sand trap with teeth. I want to see Boba Fett survive and see the story of his life after that near death experience.

To me, how Boba Fett became a bounty hunter is pretty obvious. His father was one, so he became one. Any further details could be explained in flashbacks rather than a whole movie dedicated to it.

Imagine a movie plot where Boba Fett escapes the Sarlacc and seeks revenge against Han and Luke, but attempts harder bounties in order to train himself to face off against a powerful Jedi like Luke and dangerous soldier like Han.

The movie could see him go after a massive bounty of a dangerous foe from his past that has alluded him for years. This could allow for plenty of flashbacks to piece together his origin story as apposed to a whole movie.
