Just like the Doctor has, the show #DoctorWho has worked hard to break its bonds by being diverse as possible. Whether it's female roles as companions - now the 13th Doctor - or by how it approaches relationships, and character bonding, Doctor Who has remained unique in this sense. It is a show that shows us great things can come out of anyone no matter the color of your skin, your gender, your birthright, or even your disabilities.

Doctor Who is a show that has also continually shown that it will remain fun, unique, and will adapt new ways to bring exciting experiences to life. A prime example of this? The Master being played by Michelle Gomez and our 13th Doctor being played by Jodie Whittaker starting during the 2017 Christmas special where Peter Capaldi's 12th Doctor will regenerate this winter.

So Who exactly is our 13th Doctor actress?

While Jodie Whittaker is taking on a big role as the first female Doctor, there's no doubt that we've seen much change come around. With Jodie having gotten blessing from Peter Capaldi, there's no doubt that he has begun to prepare her for the shoes she's about to fill, and the exciting stories we are about to see.

For some she may seem rather familiar to you due to her role as Beth Latimer on the show Broadchurch, where she teamed up with the 10th Doctor actor David Tennant, as they investigated the murder of her character's son. In the show the murder drew a frenzy of suspicion and media attention in the show's fictional town of Dorset.

She has also been known for her role as Anne Hathaway's best friend Tilly in the 2011 movie One Day. The role was a small one, but enough that those of you who watched will know the character well, and recognize her. If that's not enough, she can also be seen in the 2016 movie Adult Life Skills. In the film, she played a nearly 30-year-old woman who decided to stay in her parent's garden shed and refused to move out.

For some of you, she my also serve as someone you recognize due to her role in the movie Venus where she played as famed actor Peter O'Toole's love interest. The film sets up a rather unique approach to the evolution of friendship and relationship building. It's one that could bring in interest as the film serves up a delectable dish of both drama and comedy elements as viewers watched Whittaker and O'Toole's characters show a passive-aggressive relationship throughout the film due to Whittaker's character seeking to undermine O'Toole's character in any way possible.

While there's no doubt that her filmography gives some idea of her talent, there's no doubt the actress has been nerve-racked as she prepares to take on the huge role as Doctor Who.

Her colleagues are excited to have her take the role.

While we are certainly recovering from the reality setting in that Peter Capaldi is stepping away from those dashing-glasses, his quirky smile, and his eccentric approach to the Doctor. There's no doubt our upcoming Doctor Who actress has been teeming with both excitement and nerve-racking curiosity to how the fans of the show will take to her.

She told BBC during an interview that she has been, "nerve-racked due to the excitement" for her new role. While we've certainly been nerve-wracked to find out who it would be, she even hopes the fans will not be scared by her gender to BBC as seen below:

I want to tell the fans not to be scared by my gender. Because this is a really exciting time, and Doctor Who represents everything that’s exciting about change. The fans have lived through so many changes, and this is only a new, different one, not a fearful one.

She even has stated to the outlet that she was welcomed by former Doctor's and companions as she prepares for the role:

Well they can’t because they haven’t known until now, but I’m certainly expecting a couple of calls - I’ve got a couple of mates in there. I’m mates with a companion [Arthur Darvill], I’m mates with a trio of Doctors. I know Matt Smith, Chris Eccleston and obviously David Tennant. Oh! And let’s throw in David Bradley! Four Doctors! So I’m hoping I get some calls of advice.

Even the 12th Doctor actor himself, Peter Capaldi, had something to say and it should warm your heart to see his sentiment:

Anyone who has seen Jodie Whittaker’s work will know that she is a wonderful actress of great individuality and charm. She has above all the huge heart to play this most special part. She’s going to be a fantastic Doctor.

Trust us, Peter, we're excited for her as well. We are right there with new head writer of Doctor Who, Chris Chibnall in this excitement as he states how he went about choosing who would be your successor to The Doctor:

After months of lists, conversations, auditions, recalls, and a lot of secret-keeping, we’re excited to welcome Jodie Whittaker as the Thirteenth Doctor

While it'll be quite some time, next year even, before we see Jodie take the role as the 13th Doctor, we can all stand by with a sigh of relief, and prepare ourselves. We have a long, fun, and amazing journey ahead of us as she joins cast members Peter Capaldi, Michelle Gomez, and many more for the journey ahead.

As the Doctor would say: This will be exciting, my friend!
