Jenna Coleman Was Set To Leave Doctor Who After Series 8!
Steven Moffat reveals that Jenna Coleman was set to leave the show after Series 8 in 'Death in Heaven'!
2014 saw many rumors saying 'Jenna Coleman is to quit Doctor Who'. Everybody was unsure if it was real or not. The BBC had refused to confirm anything as it wasn't them that said she was leaving.
Clara Oswald is our impossible Girl. She was born to save the Doctor!
Clara Oswald was set to be written out in the [Doctor Who](series:200668) Series 8 Finale 'Death in Heaven'. Speaking to the DWM, Moffat said Jenna asked him to write her out of the Series as she didn't want to carry on. Jenna read the script and saw where she was going to depart from the TARDIS. Jenna then approached Moffat and asked if she could be in the Christmas Special 'Last Christmas'. Moffat was like sure, I'll write you out in that episode instead.
Above is a video involving Clara
Moffat explains;
"She came to the read through and did the 'write out' version - and again changed her mind." - Steven Moffat
"But the truth is I never wanted her to go. And with Last Christmas, I'd already written the alternative version where she stayed, and I preferred that version. Frankly, I didn't want to lose her. She's an amazing actress, and she never stops working to make Clara better.I was very happy to go the extra mile to make sure we could keep her." - Steven Moffat
Coleman began her career in Emmerdale on ITV 1. She is now going on for her third Series of Doctor Who. She will be the longest serving companion of New Who (excluding Handles). That puts her ahead of Karen Gillan's character Amy Pond. Also it puts her ahead of Billie Pipers character Rose Tyler.
Peter Capaldi, who plays the titular Time Lord said:
"I'm thrilled. Jenna has just been fantastic and such a pleasure to work with." - Peter Capaldi
Jenna Coleman confirmed she was going to stay alongside the Doctor after the Christmas Special. But this rumor said that she was only doing half of Series 9. Was this true? About a week or 2 later Jenna Coleman had confirmed she would do all of Series 9. Jenna Coleman had said;
"I couldn't walk away with the story being unresolved". - Jenna Coleman
The Doctor and Clara return in Series 9 this Autumn in 'The Magician's Apprentice' and 'The Witch's Familiar'. Alongside Missy (Michelle Gomez).
