Pollution

Harmful to Our Earth

Watch this video and see what we’re doing to our earth and see how we can solve this.

A basic definition to the people who know what pollution is but can’t really explain it is, “The presence in or introduction into the environment of a substance or a thing that has harmful or poisonous effects.”

Some harmful effects to the earth caused by pollution are air quality, which can kill many species including humans. Ozone pollution can cause a respiratory disease, among other more more harmful diseases.

I researched the top 10 polluted places and I picked a few that I thought were great to talk about. Sorry if this offends you in anyway I didn’t mean any harm. The first place is Linfen, China. The people here in this city say that they choke on coal dust in the evening times, which is happening in most Chinese cities but specifically this one. Another place is Haina, Dominican Republic. They are also polluted by a severe contamination because of lead battery recycling. The last place I looked at was Ranipet, India. Ground water in this country gets contaminated from leather tanning with hexavalent chromium.

Some other things that tie into pollution are climate change, Biodiversity loss (Species Extinction), air and water pollution, deforestation, and soil degradation. But most of these things have to do with global warming. Fossil fuels that are being burned are releasing carbon dioxide in our atmosphere, causing the earth to be warmer.

Here are a few ways we can protect our earth. Bike and walk more. Education is so important for you. If you have education, you can tell people ways to protect our earth and how to nurture it. Even if you don’t have it, still find ways to clean the earth, making it less polluted. We can also volunteer to help cleaning our community. Something we all know is that we can reduce, reuse, and recycle. We can also conserve our water as it helps our ocean. We can also buy less plastic and use a reusable shopping bag. Lastly, we can use non-toxic chemicals at home, in offices, or just wherever you.

Scientists are noticing that plastic eats bacteria. They say it could be a new solution to global warming. Let’s go deeper into global warming. First here’s a definition, "a gradual increase in the overall temperature of the earth's atmosphere generally attributed to the greenhouse effect caused by increased levels of carbon dioxide, chlorofluorocarbons, and other pollutants." I’m pretty sure you want to help save all our animals, because if we kill off the plants and animals, we are hurting our food chain. Eventually we will probably die off some time after this.

Polluted Area

What we’ve caused is this.

It so easy to recycle. It’s simple. For example, with water bottles, all you have to do is separate the bottle and the lid, crush the plastic bottle, and put them in separate baggies. Take the lids and plastic bottles to your nearest recycling plant and deposit them there. This benefits our earth, and it’s s good way for you to earn some extra cash. But most of all, this picture is an example of how important it is that we recycle, reuse, and reduce. If we do our part and lead by example, people will follow.
