Sony Triggers The End Of The World By Bringing To Life The Red Queen From 'Resident Evil'

Reach for a change of panties because #SonyPictures may have just triggered the end of the world. In anticipation of the upcoming #ResidentEvil: The Final Chapter, the studio has created an AI of their homicidal computer the Red Queen. Ever since she said "you're all going to die down here," I knew I never liked that punk-face bitch. Why on Earth anyone would bring to life a bloodthirsty supercomputer is beyond me, but it screams Orwellian disaster waiting to happen. Creepy kids are enough in films, let alone when they are AIs that you then bring to life. It's a big loada "nope" from me!

Launching on Facebook, fans of the franchise (or just damn fools) can match wits with the Red Queen to test their knowledge on Paul W. S. Anderson's zombie gore-fest. The unique messenger experience can communicate in a variety of languages and apparently retains the Red Queen's infamously bad temper. It has been created by IV.AI using actually scripts from the films, and is said to use thinking algorithims and emotional analysis so you can communicate with her in real time. Resident Evil: The Final Chapter takes Milla Jovovich's Project Alice back to the hive from Anderson's original film for a final stand with the Red Queen, and a battle of brains not brawn. We have all seen super-intelligent machines ruining our lives, so if the Red Queen isn't bad enough, let's look at some more murderous machines that definitely don't need resurrecting in AI form.:

Hal 9000

Appeared in: 2001: A Space Odyssey

Alongside the Red Queen, the red-eyed Hal is synonymous with machines gone haywire. Parodied since his inception in 1968, the Heuristically programmed ALgorithmic (get it?) computer was the main antagonist of Arthur C. Clarke's Space Odyssey series. He was brought to life with his creepy monosyllabic tones in Stanley Kubrick's film.

T-X

Appeared in: Terminator 3: Rise of the Machines

Sure, Arnie's original Terminator was terrifying, but his eventual redemption made him one of the good guys. The T-100 was a mean machine upgrade for the sequel, but it is the fiery female T-X who really ruled the robotic roost from the Terminator films — plus, she can pull off that red pantsuit.

Maschinenmensch

Appeared in: Metropolis

The original evil robot, the mechanical clone of heroine Maria from Fritz Lang's Metropolis was created purely to wreak havoc. She suffered with the archetypal Frankenstein complex and turned on her creator (as most evil robots seem to do). As one of the first robots ever depicted on our screens, the rest of the machines undoubtedly live up to Maschinenmensch's legacy.

Ash

Appeared in: Alien

Ian Holm's snivelling Ash served as a secondary villain alongside those chestbursting xenomorphs. Ash's actions lead to Ripley refusing to trust Lance Henriksen's Bishop the next time around in Aliens. As for Ash, his robot reveal was one of the big twists in Ridley Scott's Alien, while his berserk rampage and milky demise was one of the film's most visual.

The Gunslinger

Appeared in: Westworld

Yul Brynner took his legendary acting credentials to Michael Crichton's original film of Westworld, causing mayhem and murder for a theme park of unsuspecting guests. As one of the star's greatest and most iconic roles, I wouldn't want to go up against him in a quick-draw fight.

Queen Of The Night

The Red Queen has been played by a variety of child actors, appearing in the original Resident Evil in 2002, Resident Evil: Retribution in 2015, and forms the main villain of this year's The Final Chapter. She was in fact so terrifying, she made the rare leap over from Anderson's films and into Capcom's game series on which the Resident Evil films were (loosely) based.

Is Sony mad though? It is the whole Skynet saga all over again, and this time, you can't say that James Cameron didn't warn us. I'm all for creating an AI voiced by Morgan Freeman to help around the house, like Zuckerberg did, but recreating a psycho-tot intent on eradicating human life seems a bit far. No offence guys, but I think I will take my chances against a Furby, but thanks all the same!
