August 27, 2018 at 4:00pm MUSC, Charleston, SC Detective Derek Kyle He stood outside Brianna's private hospital room watching Dr. Sebastian Kane talk with her. For all that the doctor had blown into the trauma ward with all the force of a hurricane in human form, Brianna hadn't seemed afraid of him which was odd because everyone else on the floor seemed to avoid making so much as accidental eye contact with him. Everyone from police officers to civilians visiting loved ones gave Dr. Kane a wide berth that wasn't entirely born of fear or the look of murder he'd had when he'd arrived before he'd seen Brianna was alive with his own eyes.

She was normally down in the E.R. as a rape trauma doctor, so for her to be up here there must be another case. But by the way she stared at him with sympathy and the understanding a doctor only had when they were about to break horrible news about a loved one his stomach dropped to a ping pong between his knees. And he knew by the way her expression softened that it wasn't a case. It was something worse.

Dirty Little Secret
It was hilarious in a pathetic sort of way how utterly unaware humans were. How they could sit within arm's reach of a predator, of a monster, and be none the wiser to the danger that sat sizing them up for whether they'd make a tasty meal or not. And it was even more pathetic when the humans that were the predators of their fellows were unaware of the apex predator that stared them down.

Mariah is a sight to behold, dripping blood from multiple open welts that dot the once pristine landscape of her body. She looks good like that, all open and sore and filled with agony.
