Somers Drives Home 16-6 Victory Over Mahopac
On Friday April 12, Somers met Mahopac at home and scored twice in the first two minutes. But the early offensive outburst was not the most foretelling aspect of the 16-6 Somers victory. "Our riding was awesome today,” said Ryan Brush, and the overdrive went into gear right away.

Pitcher’s Dual Puts John Jay on the Downside
On Wednesday April 10, John Jay and Hen Hud got a good day for some softball, and the starters definitely matched the weather. Through five, Emma Barbelet and Riley Foote mastered the opposing lineups to a 1-0 pitcher’s duel. They didn’t let up the rest of the way either. But the sun had to go down, and so did a final stat line that left one on the losing end.

John Jay Tennis Shows Enthusiasm in Loss to Horace Greeley
Video On Tuesday April 9, John Jay took on Horace Greeley at home and hoped to up their record to 2-0. Unfortunately, the Wolves ran into a tough group of Quakers and lost six of seven matches. But Coach Paul Crivelli still enjoyed the day and had high praise for his boys.

Somers Track Laces Up Versus Hen Hud
Please see tip, pledge and subscribe options below At Brewster On Monday April 8, with the moon crossing the sun, Somers kept their heads down and laced up for a dual meet versus Hen Hud. Several multiple winners for the Tuskers, Haylie Donovan might have hit the trifecta, but the timing just wasn’t right. “My main race is the 400. I felt a little sick before, so I couldn’t run it,” she lamented, but the unsettling didn’t derail the rest of her day.

John Jay Gets Easy 10-0 Win Over Saunders

On Friday April 5, after opening the lacrosse season with a 3-1 victory over Lakeland High School, John Jay faced the Saunders Blue Devils at Contest Field in Cross River and sent a rookie to the pitcher's mound. So in walking the first batter on four pitches and falling behind to the second Devil, Jack Garneau admitted he might not have been locked in enough at the outset of the early evening game. But he turned the house key, struck out the side and the rest was easy pickings for the hungry Wolves.

On Monday April 1, Somers opened their baseball season versus Ardsley, and Coach JT Genovese wasn’t going to fool himself with his new roster. “We have a very young team, and we’re going to have to work through some bumps,” he said. A good first showing nonetheless, the Tuskers still came up a little short.

2-0 to start the season, Somers woke up early on Tuesday April 2 and fell behind 1-0 to visiting Hen Hud. “We started off a little slow,” said Grayden Carr, and the power outage holding for almost eight minutes, the offensive switch went on from the far end of the field.

John Jay gets First Win with Comeback Victory over Fox Lane
Senior Night Slideshow See tip, pledge and subscribe bottons On Wednesday March 27, the Wolves fell behind 3-0 to visiting Fox Lane in the first inning. Nonetheless, starter Julia Neumann kept the score contained and preserved the chance for a comeback win. A 4-3 seventh inning lead for Jay coming around, Skye Volpicella couldn’t put the squeeze on Gaby Naar’s long fly ball to lead off the inning. So reliever Maria DeGataeno simply stuck to the program. “It’s just, next play, forget about it,” said the freshman, and the relief pitcher did exactly that.

John Jay Loses Another Heartbreaker to Yorktown
Over the last few years, John Jay and Yorktown have lived a rivalry on the razor’s edge. Yorktown won in overtime in the sectionals two years ago, and last year, another OT thriller went the Husker’s way. So no surprise, on Tuesday April 4, the margin was no different, and unfortunately, it was the Wolves who were left dripping blood again.

But the intermittent nastiness of the precipitation was nothing compared to the biting sting of the John Jay offensive attack.
